  1. Prefer not being forced to use the app. And, yes, a Carnival rep said 'computer' check ins may be eliminated if all goes well with Grandeur and Legend. Don't know what the flip phone users will do other than stand in line at the terminal.
  2. Now this is a topic which shoots my blood pressure up.
  3. Heads up all: I'm sailing on Vision in January and CANNOT do check in on a computer. You must check in via the APP or stand in a longer line at the pier (for me, Baltimore). Royal is doing this experiment with the Vision and the Grandeur (info from Royal representative) with the idea of extending to the entire fleet. Luggage tags will be emailed. I've reserved my arrival time via the APP but will probably do my check in in person. Don't like being forced into using tech I don't quite trust (yeah, I know, get over it).
  4. not responding specifically to your message, but: Just returned from a B2B on another cruise line. One of my table mates bragged about purchasing a diamond bracelet at on of our ports. She was flashing it around at dinner. YET, on the last night, she removed the pre-paid gratuities and didn't hand the table servers cash tips. The rest of us did provide additional tips.
  5. I believe no more than 30 minutes prior to the first terminal arrival time. My info might be bad as my first Carnival out of Baltimore was in October 2022.
  6. I didn't find Nevis particularly interesting.
  7. Anything good near the port? We arrive at 4 pm and depart at 11 pm. The two of us aren't good for walking long distances and have done the typical tours on previous cruises. Also would like a really good pina colada (I know it's a cliche'). thanks.
  8. Very true. This happened to me when trying to add either a pre or post cruise to existing reservations.
  9. Having witnessed two medical evacuations on the Grandeur of the Seas (same 12-night cruise), it gave me a much greater appreciation for the Coast Guard service members' skills and professionalism. One was a helicopter rescue and the other was a boat rescue.
  10. I was on Holland America (very small ship) last August and we tendered to the distant port.
  11. You can book refundable fares, although they are a bit more costly. I never book non-refundable; life changes too quickly.
  12. There are several reviews for this excursion on the Carnival site.
  13. Thank you for responding so quickly. Regretfully, I'll pass.
  14. HI: How deep is the water here? I don't swim but like hanging my feet off the platform.
  15. There is a Marriott Courtyard across I-95 from the pier. The area is called McHenry Row. There's a Ha Harris Teeter supermarket (with liquor sales inside), two banks and several restaurants. You could drop your luggage off early, return to the hotel and then Uber or taxi to the pier.
  16. My extra tip for the cabin steward is a minimum $50. Not LOL.
  17. Call Luggage Forward (or other companies) for them to explain the process and check if they service a particular port and cruise line.
  18. Did my first Holland America cruise in July/August 22022 (35 days). I have mostly sailed Celebrity, Royal Caribbean. For HAL, i was on the small Zaandam and thoroughly enjoyed it. My point is that the level of service, quality of food and overall demeanor of the staff, crews and passengers was wonderful.
  19. I do the St. John's trip that is a bus ride all around the island (no beach). It's a good introduction to the beauty of the island. The boat ride over/back is relaxing. You'll have plenty of beach opportunities in the other ports. Dominica is lush so maybe just a bus tour. If docked 'downtown', it's an opportunity to experience an authentic island town.
  20. I used Luggage Forward for my Holland America cruise round-trip Boston in the summer of 2022. I was very pleased. UPS picked up from and delivered to my house. I shipped two large, heavy pieces (35 day cruise). The luggage was picked up from the house about a week ahead. One caution on the return shipment: they sometimes deliver to you house a day or so early, so maybe add a day or two to the date for the home delivery (i.e., back home on Monday, have the pieces delivered on Wednesday). The reason I did this was because I stayed an extra day in Boston. Hope this makes sense. Also, it would be best to have someone home with them on the days that UPS picks up/delivers to the house. UPS only retrieves luggage from the curb or driveway. You might want to inquire if it can be dropped off at the local UPS office by you.
  21. It was a nightmare when only the small HAL Zaandam was in port in August. Very unhappy that Celebrity is now running it's 12-day Canada/NE cruises out of Boston.
  22. In addition to a wheelchair, as you're about at the ramp, security will allow you to enter the ship on dock level. I've done this several times myself when on Royal.
