passport processing time

Or you could wait and get your passport after your cruise and just use your Birth Cert and photo ID - that way you won't have to worry about getting it back in time for your trip.

I gave that a though too! I just got off of a cruise earlier this month so I couldnt have gone much earlier to get the passport even if I wanted to. I'd like to just have the passport in hand but you raise a good point..just wait til afterwards.

You can get another birth certificate if they don't make it

When I requested my Oldest daughters BC, it took about 6 weeks to get. We live in Illinois and she was born in California. Not always as easy as a trip to the local Court House. Wish it was, it's a lot easier to cruise from San Diego than here. :D

I just requested my youngest daughters passport on December 30, when I check the travel.gov website today, it said it was in the mail and we would receive it by January 29. It seem to be about a month's turn around right now. Not to bad of a wait.

For those worries about birth certificates, I've found those so quick and easy to replace. You can typically get a second copy for $10-$15 in under a week. Just go to your town of birth's website; even many small towns have this these days. You can often order these by mail and avoid the trip to your hometown. My city of birth has an online form, which makes it super easy

Might be worth ordering a backup f you're getting close to your deadline (cheap piece of mind backup).

Great idea, but not all agencies are quick. My DH always used his certificate of birth from the hospital in the past (driver's license, marriage license, etc). We knew he need a certified birth certificate for the passport. I ordered it online from a West Texas county. It took 10 weeks! :(

We just applied for our passports and they only took 3 weeks!:D

I just submitted papers for my grandson's passport and a renewal for me on January 10th. I found it interesting that HIS was back by January 18th, and today when checking mine, it says I should have it by January 31st. I thought it was very interesting that a renewal took longer than a brand new one...but it was for a child. Go figure. :)

We're 2 weeks into the wait as well. I went online to check status (travel.state.gov), confirmed it was still "in processing", and registered my email address

I received a nice note reminding me that I had been told 4-6 weeks when we filled out the applications :)

Our status just changed on the passport web site. it says the eta of the passport is 2/1. So, that was about 3.5 weeks for us

No, you have to have the original with the raised seal.

This is incorrect, your original Birth Certificate will reamain on file at the Office of Vital Statistics in the county in which you were born. They issue a certified copy of that original. Also, many states do not use a raised seal, they use banknote paper.

You cannot use a photo copy or a hospital issued Birth Certificate.
