kriten19 Posted February 2, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2011 I will be in athens this spring on a cruise for the day. We will be docked from 7a-6p. Is it worth getting a private tour or to do the ship excursions? Also are the excursions even worth it in athens or should I save my money and do it on our own? I have found a taxi to take us around for about 5hrs for 150euros but this doesn't include being our guide, he would jsut be transportation. Is it worth it? Thank you Kristen
siouxcitysue Posted February 11, 2011 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2011 No, I wouldn't use just a driver who sits behind the wheel and doesn't even tell you what you are seeing. Check out Dennis with Tours of Athens (http://www.toursofathens.com). He drives and tells you all about what you are seeing. He does not accompany you into the sights, but fills you in on what you will see (or have seen) from the vehicle. I highly recommend him. Also, he can pair you up with other travelers that day to make it more economic for you. He vehicle seats 6 comfortably. Enjoy!
wantocruisemore Posted February 11, 2011 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2011 We're booked with Nikos with Private Greece Tours. Do a search in this forum and you will find lots of info on him. I would not recommend the ship's tours. They end up more expensive, less time at the sites, more crowded and many things are just drive by's.
