WillieD13 Posted February 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2011 I've been looking at cruises for this summer, and I was hoping to find a trip to Bermuda, but Carnival does not seem to go to Bermuda from NY in the summer, only in Apr and Sep. Matter of fact, only Charleston has Bermuda in the summer, while Baltimore is Apr and Sep-Nov. The options out of NY are very limited. I would think that Bermuda would be a popular summer choice out of NY. I know I can go Norwegian out of both NY and Boston, but I would prefer to stay with Carnival. Is there some reason for this? I would think that Bermuda would be a popular summer choice out of NY. I know I can go Norwegian out of both NY and Boston, but I would prefer to stay with Carnival. Is there some reason for this? They only did it once, for a series of cruises on the Pride, back in 2003. We thought we had found our annual trek. NOT! This is the first time that they have returned except for that once a year in April, on three different ships from three different ports (third in Baltimore). I did ask Mr. Heald last year, and he did respond: MrPete Asked: Submitted on 2009/08/07 at 12:08pm John….. RSVP Why are there not MORE Carnival Bermuda itineraries? Why is there only one, and that is WAY too early in the season? Why was the Pride allowed to go all summer long back in 2003, and then bust. Regards…. Pete John Says: Hello Pete Occasionally along will come a question that I cannot answer and so I look to my friends at Carnival to help. In this case I went to our Senior Vice president of ..ummmm….lots of stuff…….our good friend Mr. Terry Thornton and here is his honest reply to your question. Our ships can only dock at Kings Wharf due to their size. The Bermuda Government has long term contracts with two other cruise lines that provide them with preferential berthing rights. We can only get a berth when those other companies are not using it. From April through October, there are not many options for us to get a berth. The Carnival Pride visited Bermuda, but it required the cruises to operate from New York on a Wednesday. We were able to get a Bermuda berth on the weekends. The Wednesday departures were not preferred by our guests and the cruises did not perform as well as some of our other itinerary choices. While we would like to offer more Bermuda cruises, our 4,5,7 and 8 day itineraries from New York and Baltimore are very popular with our guests. Plus, we think these cruises generate more favorable results for us. Bermuda is a good destination. However, with the restrictions on the guest experience for several days (shops and casino closed; entertainment limited) and the very high guest port tax, there are some drawbacks to be considered. Terry Thanks Terry. We appreciate you taking the time to reply and it seems that those are some excellent reasons as to why we don’t see the Carnival smoke stack off the shores of Bermuda that often. Pete – if you have a follow up please let me know Best wishes John

If you can't get a good answer, you might want to take a look at the HAL Veendam 7 night cruises to Bermuda. They visit St George and Hamilton. Price is reasonable, and it's a really nice ship. MrPete Posted February 6, 2011 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2011 We have done RCCL 3 times to Bermuda on the ExOS. Nice cruise, but their 5 day cruise cost more than CCL's 7 day cruise.

Just looking at RC from NJ for late August with the family and for 5 days and not even 2 full days in Bermuda, pretty high. At the least EOS should be 7 days instead of 5. Now I am looking at the Miracle from NY. Did one CC on the Legend years ago and was not impressed. The kids have not ever cruised, ages 17 and 13 and I am wondering is there enough onboard for them to do? :)

There were a lot of teens on board, and they all seemed to hang out in the "teen clubs"
azbaby8062 Posted February 6, 2011 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2011 My family is sailing on the Explorer of the Seas for their 9 day sailing to Bermuda.(July 21st sailing). I think it sails out of Bayone. I was going to go except I just couldn't afford it. The cost of one person is more than I am paying for the 9 day sailing to the Mexican Riviera for the TWO of us. Granted it is not Bermuda but it is definitely a cruise and I will take a cruise over no cruise.
