posted on your Facebook page ? I would love to post the photo of Funship Freddy and me as a profile shot on FB, but I am not sure if that is allowable. I don't want any surprise letters from Carnival's attorneys !

I can't believe I even bought that photo, but he is just SO cute.

Carnival has a photo release on their web site that may help you some.

http://www.carnival.com/cms/FAQs/PhotoRelease.pdf

There is also a number for their photo department at the bottom. They may be able to answer your questions.

Hope that helps,

Tim

Copyrights on Photos have always been the biggest BS RIPOFF I can think of. The reason for it is so that when someone takes a memoriable photo that News Services or others want to use for commerical gain they can be complensated for it. But when you are PAYING them to take your photo and are specifically not allowed to take your own pics, then you are the one that should OWN the copyright. I understand there could be a conflist if there is Carnival themed copyright type things in the photo (I.E. Whale Tail, Logo etc) but for most photos, the background is generic or such. And they put there logo in there to remind you where you were or such. Then they want to charge you $ 20.00 or more for a simple 4x6 or such.

Also as long as you are using it for your PERSONAL USE. And facebook is personal use. And not using them to make $$$ then you should be OK.

Facebook is not personal use. It is publishing. Copyright law is very clear on it. You own the photo, you don't own the copyright. You don't have any reproduction rights. Whether they will do anything about it is another question. They might like it since it's free advertising and may lead others to buy the photos on board so they will probably ignore it.

I just called Carnival (1-800-CARNIVAL) and asked if the photos purchased from the ship could be scanned and put on Facebook. The lady I spoke with said that was fine. She said they really just don't want their photos used in a promotional (commercial) way. Personal use is fine.

Now the next time someone calls, the answer could be completely different.

Hope that helps some,

Tim

Thanks for this information, I too was wondering the same thing even though I have seen some photos posted previously. But was really wondering about reprints for family and or Holiday Cards n such.

The problem might be if you wanted print it out at wal-mart or whatever. IF it is a pro grade picture they won't print it.

Take the release paper from Carnival with y ou and they will make what number you wish to pay for.

DH's current FB profile pic is of him and the captain of the Triumph from last April when he did the Behind the Fun Tour and was on the bridge. And one of my FB profile pics that got the most responses from friends was from Formal Night on our 1st cruise with RCCL.

Go for it!
