Amtrak to NY Penn Station - Brooklyn Cruise Terminal - Hotel? Transportion?

Arriving/departing by train, wondering about transportation to/from terminal and pre-night hotel? Cab or public transportation? Hotel near Penn Station or Brooklyn Cruise Terminal?

You don't want to stay around Penn Station. It can be kind of seedy.

 

What is your budget and what time of year are you coming? In August $150 will get you a nice moderate Midtown hotel. In October, that same hotel is $400 per night.

I get a travel professional rate at Marriot brands, last time there we stayed at a Renasiance in Time Square. Are there hotels near the terminal? What about transportation?

Doesn't sound like staying in Manhattan for sightseeing is a priority for you. I would advise checking out the Brooklyn Marriott as one possibility. Another option that might be cost effective (even without a Marriott corporate discount) is Hampton Inn or Hilton Gardens on Staten Island - Amtrak to Newark Airport, hotel shuttle to Staten Island and car service (Village Car Service) to Brooklyn. Hotels are next door to one another in a wooded corporate park setting where you won't feel like you are in NYC (but you actually are).
