short stay in venice

My girlfriend and I will be arriving in Venice in the evening and will be catchign a cruise the next night.

I'm looking for a nice but not too expensive place to stay near the entrance to the grand canal. We'll be arriving on the bus and since it's late, I'd like it to be a place that we can walk to.

I see that there are some hotels to the left and right of the parking lot.

Does anyone have a place they can suggest in/around or near this area?

Thanks for your help. Staying under 24 hours, I hate to spend $200+ Euros.....I need that for the cruise!!!

Unfortunately, 200 EUR is approximately what you will pay for a hotel in Venice. The Ca' Doge and Santa Chiara are both right at Piazzale Roma which is where your bus will drop you. Ca' Doge was really nice, but it doesn't have an elevator. Santa Chiara has an elevator and sits right on the Grand Canal. I think I paid 179 EUR per night at Ca' Doge. This is a nice website that will give you plenty of ideas for hotels and lots of other stuff too. Browse around it.

back side...it does have a double room with bath and was $120, us that good? We don't need an elevator. I book this.......it's basic but ok and right near the bus parking area facing the cruise port side....what do you think?

Since you only need to use it for a very short while it looks like it might be OK. It will be an adventure. I see it is a converted monastery which will be a unique experience. Noone mentions having to cross a bridge in their posts but it looks to me like it is located across one of them although thank goodness it is NOT the new bridge that goes to the train station. Someone said it took 8min. to get there walking with luggage soooo no harm booking I doubt you will find something less expensive in a close location.

This hotel starts at about 219E and is highly recommended here and on TripAdvisor.com: http://www.hotelantichefigure.it/eng/index.asp We have reservations with them this fall. It is a 5 minute walk to Piazzale Roma and is across the Grand Canal from the train station. You will pay much more than 300E for a room with a view of the canal!

Good luck!:)
