I also do not like Cabo, and for me to have to spend 2 days there would be very disappointing.

I tried to search for a story about a recent shooting, and the only one I could find was the one where a Canadian was shot. He was not a cruiser, and That was about a month ago. Is Carnival just now hearing about it???

We would prefer to go to Ixtapa/ Zihuat...We were there in Nov on the Spirit, an 8 day sailing. We were on her again last week for 9 days & never got off the ship. We love cruising, but Mazatlan, PV and Ensenada just don't interest us. Just wish they were going to replace the Spirit...Our CD didn't make it sound good for San Diego getting a replacement ship when the Spirit leaves. We do love sailing out of San Diego and think Ixtapa is the best port along with Cabo.

One shooting in Mazatlan causes an itinerary change for a ship that leaves from Los Angeles?!

:D Now that is a good one...and soooo true!!

I am still looking for something official that says they are doing this, Carnival has not released a press release, and don't see it stated anywhere on John's blog....someone wanna help me out here?

Per John:

and the latest from the SVP beard on Mazatlan

"We have asked the local officials for details on exactly what occurred and their specific security plans to address this situation. We are pushing hard to get this completed as soon as possible. Will let you know as soon as we know more."

Was this on FB or his blog?

So it is not a done deal yet? :( I would love to spend two days in Cabo...not a big fan of Mazatlan even before the violence, and was going to just stay on the ship that day.

The way I read it is that it is a done deal for this sailing, but they aren't speculating past that.

nklpikl - You should check out the roll call for our sailing. The actual roll call is rather quiet but there is a link to a Facebook group for our sailing that has 28 people linked up. Come join us!

Thank you I just asked to join the facebook group.

Off to research something else to do in Cabo in case we end up there two days.

Just wondering if they DO skip Mazatlan on our sailing...then what?? We are ALREADY going to be spending 2 days in Cabo as it is....

I will be watching this thread very carefully, and John, I agree...the truth now about night tendering... we all know that the shops and casino must be kept open, which is fine with me. I wonder how many people will "miss" the last tender on the first night in Cabo and rejoin the ship the following day when it is back to Cabo? lol

Thanks!!

Great. My husband is already so paranoid about Mexico as it is. It seems like it's just been one story after another the past few months involving violence towards tourists. I'm personally not worried but again, my DH is super paranoid. He already doesn't want to get off the boat at all.

We are on the 3/11 Spirit and I would prefer Cabo for two days than Mazatlan anyway. Mazatlan didn't look like anything special to me. I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

raylene5 not that it will help alot ...I was just there last week and i felt nothing but safe the whole time in all the ports...We saw plenty of Police and Military around the main areas of town....in PV we went to the mountains and even saw alot of Policia....I know it is just my opinion ...and voice...but be safe and dont go to crazy areas and you guys should be fine...

I'm sailing this Friday, 2/25/11, on the Spirit and we also have two days in Cabo scheduled already. I'm hoping they'll exchange Mazatlan for a second day in Puerto Vallarta. Anxiously waiting for updates. I am fine with going to Mazatlan if they decide to keep the itinerary, but I sure do love PV . . .

Ok that would be a good idea, second day in PV. We are on the 4/1 cruise, and would be happy with PV, PV, Cabo Cabo....

Oh I hope they add another destination if they skil mazaltan. Cabo looks beautiful but two days there plus 3 days at the sea in a 7 day cruise doesn't sound that appealing.

You don't like sea days? I would love an extra sea day should the "Powers That Be" cancel Mazatlan for our April cruise.

Yeah, I personally feel absolutely fine going into the ports. I'm not worried at all. It's just my husband (and my mom too) who is concerned. It's a good thing they aren't doing Acalpulco...he'd really be a mess! :)
