cruisingallover Posted February 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2011 Looking for some ideas on this port. Is it walkable from the ship? I understand there is a HOHO bus....is it worth taking?

RussellF Posted March 8, 2011 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2011 I was born in Wallasey (across the river from Liverpool) and went to Liverpool University, so here's my advice. The things you MUST do in Liverpool are (in order of closeness to the cruise terminal): take the ferry across the Mersey (as in the famous song) www.merseyferries.co.uk/ ; see the Beatles Story exhibition (http://www.beatlesstory.com/) and take the tour of Mendips and Forthlin Road( http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-the_beatles.htm ) or the Magical Mystery Tour ( http://www.visitliverpool.com/site/c...y-tour-p172251 ) See the Albert Dock with its museums and the Tate Liverpool Gallery; visit one or both of the two cathedrals; have a pint in the Philharmonic pub -- halfway between the two cathedrals -- and visit Britain's most ornate loo (in the gents)! maps.google.co.uk/maps/place?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=philharmonic+pub+liverpool&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=philh armonic+pub&hnear=Liverpool,+Merseyside&cid=307072 8236740680667&dtab=2&ei=tVZqTdfBLc6WhQe8-pWiDw&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved= 0CCIQqgUwAA; Visit Goodison Park (Everton FC) -- no tours of the ground on September 15 sadly -- or Anfield (Liverpool FC) football grounds - there's tours of Anfield at http://www.anfield-tour.co.uk/index.html There's a one-hour guided bus tour of the city centre at http://www.city-sightseeing.com/inde...ions=liverpool or you can buy a Saveaway ticket for £3.40 pp giving one day's unlimited travel on buses and trains http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/infor...s_saveaway.asp Well that should keep everyone busy! bconley351 Posted March 8, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 8, 2011 I've been looking at admission prices for places we may visit on our own while in various ports, and I'm seeing admission prices and 'concession' prices. What are the concession prices for? I'm sure it's just a matter of different terminology than I'm used to. Thanks. Lorraine

newport dave Posted March 8, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 8, 2011 Normally paid by Senior Citizens or Students. Brian Senior Citizens don't normally get asked for ID, but you will if you ask for Student price.
eddieg07410 Posted March 9, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 9, 2011 If you are a Beatles Fan I would highly recommend writing to these people, very inexpensive and a great tour. tours@thebeatlesfabfourtaxitour.com

Agree with all that....my favourite has to be the National Trust tour of Lennon and McCartney's childhood homes - but note that you have to book in advance. Of the two cathedrals, the Anglican is my favourite due to its enormous size and the views of the city and the Mersey from the tower. Can I also add the Walker Art Gallery for its Pre Raphaelite paintings and St George's Hall for its architecture and the opportunity to sit in the judge's seat in an old panelled court room and even wear the wig, if you like that sort of thing. And for an afternoon cocktail "Alma de Cuba" http://www.alma-de-cuba.com/history/ located in a former Catholic church. Have a mojito on the altar. Too much for one day though!
