*~Carnival Legend - Tell All Thread!! ~*

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were on the Legend last week and we had a great time. It is a very nice ship with a very good crew. Not everything was perfect, but we didn't expect perfection, and things do not need to be perfect in order for a cruise to be very enjoyable and ours certainly was. Here is a link to my review:

I'm leaving on 4/27 and I'm getting to the point where I am checking out all possible tidbits of information about the Legend and getting as nervous and giddy as a little girl. I can't wait!

Keep the information coming.

my DH and i took the Legend on our honeymoon (and 1st cruise) last October out of NYC to the E.Carib. Embarkation was a nightmare but we forgot all about it as soon as we set foot on the ship. Can honestly say we loved every minute. Thought the staff were the friendliest people ever, the room was larger than i had anticipated with lots of storage space, the food was delicious, and we even won in the casino!! Debarkation was a breeze...too bad because we would have loved to be stuck on the ship! my DH and i are not used to luxury vacations, foods, or exotic locales so we do not mind if the occasional piece of meat is under/over cooked or the ports had "poor" areas...we are just happy to be on vacation experiencing things we don't get to do every day but we did hear some complaints from other passengers (nothing major). one thing i do not compromise on is attitude and service and i felt both were exemplary from the staff. i'm sure everyone who is booked on the Legend in the future will have a great time!

  • 2 weeks later...

I was on the Legend in February '03 and loved it. Took the Eastern Caribbean itinerary; in November I'm doing the Belize, Costa Rica and Panama one. The private dining club was a real treat, and well worth the extra fee -- it was a great dining experience!! The "urns" are a little bit overwhelming, but overall it's a beautiful ship. I found the service to be terrific in the dining room, although I was not really too pleased with my cabin steward at first -- I passed on the original problems at the customer desk though, and after that found the service to be all I expected (this was my 10th cruise).

sandryNYC,

We are going on the Legend on 4/27 also. Can't wait. We are from PA and taking a chartered bus to the pier. Last July we drove to the pier and went on the Miracle and loved it. That is why we booked the Legend (Spirit Class Ship).

Counting down the days.

DW and I cruised her last week of November 2003, had an absolute blast. We received an upgrade from 4A to 8A, Balcony!!!!!! Carnival has outdone itself by having so many restaurants, bars, pools, and entertainment areas to choose from. Never was on line for food, always had a chair or loung chair to sit on without waiting. Loved the service, especially our dinner waiter, he was sooo professional and experienced. Our room steward was always out of sight, but kept our room immaculate. I loved the fact we were on the aft portion of the ship, walked down eight doors, got on the elevator and walla, we were at the restaurant. The evening entertainment, especially the hipnotist, by the way never volunteer to be hypnotized; I saw an Army Lieutenant Colonel get hypnotized, and until this day I still laugh about the things the hypnotist made the Colonel do. I am laughing right now.

I really enjoyed the sea days, the ice cream bar was to die for. The pool side competitions were a hoot, never seen so many people involved in having a good time as I saw on the Legend. The ports of call were Colon, Panama; Limon Costa Rica and Belize City, Belize. Enjoyed the cave tubing with Reggie Tours in Belize, check out his website. Hired our own driver in Panama, he drove so fast I thought we were going to die. My having purchased twelve Guiness beers for $3.00 defenitely helped me relax. Checked out the Canal Locks, military bases and ended up on the Pacific side, nice trip. Costa Rica is for white water rafting, you have to check it out, it was awesome.

We are scheduled to take another Conquest Ship, the Liberty this November back to Panama and Costa Rica, as well as Cozumel. There is no feeling like the one I get when cruising: No one can reach me by phone, my most difficult decision of the day is what kind of fun I am going to have during the day, and finally, "bartender I will have another one of those, make it a double."

To all first time cruisers, beware cruising can be addictive. I think we need to start group therapy sessions for cruisers. We can call it Cruise Critics Anonymous.

Cruise Critic Anonymous...too funny. He's right though. Well, for most people. It happened to me, after my first, couldn't wait for my next....and it keeps happening that way. DH couldn't care where we go as long as it's warm, I HAVE to cruise!

The time is starting to drag....is it JUNE yet??? I booked the Legend again in October for a CTN too, out of NYC. Just need a break. Everyone keep coming back! Everyone going before us, bring back your warm fuzzies and share! I can't wait to hear everyone's stories.

I just have to respond to this, as I had read nightmare stories on the boards about Embarkation...This was our first cruise and I was amazed at how

quickly we were processed and on the ship! We flew into Ft. Lauderdale

from Detroit, landing at 10:15 a.m. We hired a taxi from the airport and asked him to stop by a convenience store for a few necessities...and then we were on to the pier (which said Pier 19 on our tickets...but the cab driver was quick to note that the sign posted at the entry said "LEGEND PIER 21".

They had two lines going...and it was moving fairly steady...no long standing waits....we processed through checking our luggage, getting our cabin assignments (we went guaranteed and were upgraded from inside cabin to outside ocean view.) We were in cabin 1261 Riviera deck 1 which was on the aft of the ship...15 steps to the elevators...and straight up to either dining room on deck 2...or Lido deck aft and Unicorn Restaurant on the 9th deck. Our cabin location was superb! Quiet and convenient to dining areas, as well as shops.

We were through embarkation and on the ship by 12:30 and having lunch by 1 p.m. Ship was scheduled to leave port at 4:00, but I think it was closer to 5 when they set sail.

There was one family in front of us that bellyached about the other line moving faster (which was for those who had gotten there REALLY early and had completed the preboarding portion.) I noted the same family complaining of other trivial things another time during the cruise. I guess there's one in every crowd.

You will love this ship! The food was excellent, the staff very professional...with the exception of cruise assistant Richie, who I found VERY annoying with his immature behavior (i.e. tackling cruise assistant Adam-full body slam to the floor of the Follies Theatre- when Blue team was awarded trophy on final day of cruise.) Not a great example to the MANY kids on board!! This was spring break week.

Other than that....everything was wonderful. Do not miss the Golden Fleece Supper Club! EXCELLENT and worth every penny of the extra charge.

Note...someone had suggested taking an outlet converter that converts to 6 outlets...Legend will not accomodate this type of converter. Take the power strip or an extention cord...there is ONE outlet in the cabin and that is at the desk area. The only outlet in the bathroom is for shavers only. I tried plugging in my steamer and it would not operate on that outlet.

Oops..this started out as an answer to embarkation...and went in other directions...sorry:D

Penny

So is the consensus that embarkation isn't a good experience on the Legend? We've never sailed out of Port Everglades. Would it be better to arrive early or late?

We're on the April 27th cruise too, with my 4 1/2 year old (her 4th cruise!) and my 10 month old son. I can't believe it's 4 weeks from tomorrow.... it'll be great! We live in NJ, and drive to the pier, and a half hour from the time we leave home, we're already drinking those umbrella drinks! Last 2 years we left from NY on the NCL Dawn (loved it!), and we haven't been on a Carnival ship since the Triumph to Canada, on the day of Hurricane Floyd!

See you all there!

Kathy:)

I just sailed on the Legend - departed 3/19. The embarkation went very smoothly. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes from pier drop-off to entering cabin. We lost 15 minutes due to a clerk needing to find a supervisor to verify a birth certificate. If you have a child born in the Canal Zone or any other foreign US military base, get them a US Passport. It will save some headaches.

We sailed on the Legend last November and are going on her again this November only to the west this time. We had a great time. Very few negatives. I posted a review on this board shortly after we got back if you care to look it up. Also we posted some pic's which can be located by checking our past postings. Anyone going on this ship, I believe, is in for a great time.

It seems that by reading the posts, Ft Lauderdale is a smooth, happy experience, and NY is an absolute nightmare for embarkation. When is the 1st sailing this year out of NY for the Legend? Whoever is on that cruise, let us know how embarkation was. We are going twice that week out of NY, Mothers' Day on the Dawn and then the Legend on Friday, I should be batty by then :o, wish us luck!

Is this your first cruise? This is our 3rd, (2nd with Carnival). Hope to see your there.

I think the poster was referring to embarkation in NYC (the LEGEND moves back and forth between Florida and NYC with the seasons).

I would agree, embarkation in NYC was a mad house. Cabs everywhere. Cops and security everywhere. People pushing and shoving. Everybody with their hand out. People with not the slightest idea what is going on and I'm talking about the port people working for Carnival. No signs for lines, so one would end up in a line for people needing different things signed before they can leave, etc. Terrible embarkation, but hey, that's New York. What a beautiful, living, vibrant city. Was worth the trip from LA to see her again. She is literally the Capitol of the World. :)

By the way- it sure beats laying out an extra thousand bucks and a hotel night for us north east folks!!
