Kids and Room Keys

My DH and I will be on the Spirit in a couple of weeks with kiddos 9 and 12. I had to book one child and one adult in each room even though the kids will be in their own room together. I realized that the kids will only have one key to their room and the other one will have the key to my room.

Has anyone had luck getting the right room keys for the right people once you are boarded? This wouldn't be an issue if I would have been able to book the kids together in the first place!

Thank you!!

why don't you give your key to the other child when they give you thiers, then everyone has the right key? However I do believe the pursers desk will make you an extra key if you ask. We tried to book a room next to the adults for our spring break cruise but they were all booked! So sharing it is. nice and cozy.

Just got back from Glory cruise. We also had a 'kids room'. Mom and 9yo booked in balcony room, dad and 14yo in inside cabin. Go to the pursers desk when you get on and have 2 spare keys made for kid's cabin. 9yo gets spare (room only) key, mom gets the other spare (to check on them at bed time). Dad keeps original key for purchases, 9yo's key for 'grown-up' cabin key. Also helps when the 9yo looses room key, you still have the card for port.

I hate to sound harsh, but I wish they would figure it out. Those children are too young to be in a room alone. Haven't you read the stories? Sneaking out, molestations, arrests, and sadly, disappearances. Please give them some adult supervision. You can have your 'alone time' while they're at Camp Carnival.

I'll follow this up with why I have this viewpoint.

I've been lucky to have been on two Alaska cruises, where people seem sane.

I've been unlucky to have been on a Thanksgiving cruise on Ecstacy while she was doing the Ensenada run.

The first 'gentleman' I ran into said he was a chef in Florida and we had a wonderful conversation. I was in the Casino at closing and he found me and asked if I could find some booze, since everything was closed. I thought it was for me and him, and started heading to my stateroom, but he said it was for him and a 12-year-old boy he was friends with. I said no way and he ran off. I did follow and then told a crew member, and never heard back.

The next night, I went to the aft after closing and there was a man with a full bottle of Bacardi and a 14-year-old girl. (I didn't see the bottle or know the age until we sat and spoke a while). I told him she shouldn't be drinking and they quickly left, after telling me her mom was fine with it. I think her mom was in another room and didn't KNOW.

It's not a floating baby-sitter. What I saw was so scary. I hope it was just because it was Thanksgiving and there were so many uncaring families and oblivious people. But I wouldn't leave children alone in a hotel room anywhere, why on a cruise ship? The staff does NOT babysit. There were staff on the Lido watching that guy get that teenager drunk. They weren't hiding that bottle well.

Be parents. Please.

ETA: The Spirit has LOVELY quad rooms with bunkbeds that are very comfy and fold up in the daytime to give room. My friends did this with their teen daughters in Alaska, and they all had a SAFE fun time.
