Cable vs. Cabbage Beaches, Nassau

I've heard that cabbage beach is closed due to erosion. Cable beach sounds like it could get a little congested. Can anyone elaborate on Cable Beach, where to go, etc.?

I was thinking of doing a walking tour and some shopping in the morning, returning to the ship for lunch and to leave any purchases in our room, and then relaxing on a beach in the afternoon (4/19), we'd like access to a nice beach, but must be kid friendly for our 6 and 9 year olds.

Any advice as to which resort on Cable beach to go to, or if we're better off at a different beach.
