drsb Posted March 13, 2011 #26 Share Posted March 13, 2011 I hate same day flying, so we always try to go a day early. Two if we can! That way the cruise can start with no stress, no last minute panic, no "what ifs." My son recently flew from Rochester NY to Seattle for a job interview. On his way back at his stopover in Detroit, the Friday night flight was canceled due to an injured or ill pilot. He was booked for SUNDAY night at 10pm to return! He ended up sleeping in the airport because the hotel he got a voucher for was full. He was able to grab an earlier flight on Saturday but it routed him from Detroit to Philly to LGA to ROC! Took him all day Saturday to get home. Yikes! Hence, anything can happen at any time, and with airlines flying fewer flights, it is hard to get on a flight after something like that happens. Even though Boston is a little bit further than Manchester for me, I am flying NON-STOP BOS to MIA next month the day before my cruise!
Half Pint Posted March 13, 2011 #27 Share Posted March 13, 2011 Thanks to all your wonderful advice, I booked the scenic oceanview room on the Valor for Nov 20. I'm very excited. I love the shuttle & airfare tips! However I am deathly afraid of a same day flight. What if the flight gets delayed?? Last time we flew to Orlando we had over a two hour delay on a direct flight. Thank goodness we didn't have a connecting flight. We would have missed that for sure. I guess I have a few months to work out the travel lol! I'll make it work either way. Thanks so much!! We sailed on the Valor and loved it. :) Read my trip report in my signature if you want to know why you should always fly in the day before. ;)
mjsk291 Posted March 14, 2011 #28 Share Posted March 14, 2011 We sailed on the Valor in mid February; it's recently been refurbished and was super clean and in great shape! We had a balcony room on the 8th floor and absolutely loved it! Great food, great crew, nice ship. There's a new "serenity area" (adults only) which we really enjoyed. Living in Minnesota, we came to Miami the night before (luckily, as a snowstorm in Minneapolis cancelled some Sunday flights and caused a few cruisers to miss their Miami connections.) Have a wonderful time- wish I could join you.

Hey my fun group is on the same cruise! We are all over the Lido deck in 5 cabins...we haven't booked flights yet bc we are waiting for Allegiant to open these dates in May...It will be an AMaZING trip! We just got back from about the same itinerary on the Dream in March- let me know if you need excusion advise. :)
aidansaunt2004 Posted April 5, 2011 #30 Share Posted April 5, 2011 I'm from Ohio and we drove straight through to Miami. It took us approximately 22 hours. If you drive, avoid Atlanta at all costs. We were held up to Miami and on the way back to Ohio due to traffic congestion and accidents. The last cruise we went on, we went down through North and South Carolina which didn't have any accidents or anything (luckily). The Valor is a nice ship. It was the first ship we cruised on. It's a decent sized ship and it has an adults only pool. It has the confusing layout when it comes to getting to dinner but that seems to be a lot of the ships. Pituk was our server in the dining room. He was amazing :)

I haven't started planning excursions yet, I have ideas, but haven't booked anything yet. Also, haven't booked our flights yet. The prices are crazy high!! So, I need to bite the bullet and do it soon. I will keep you in mind if I need advice. See you on the Lido deck! -Lisa

cmptrwiz Posted June 4, 2011 #33 Share Posted June 4, 2011 We were on the Valor about 1 1/2 years ago and had a great time. My only complaint was the smoky casino. Good food, Good service, Good people and Good times. I too was wondering how come the Valor was less expensive than most other Carnival ship. One person from our cruise did a review after our cruise. Their comment was that because of the price there were a lot of 1 star people on the ship. I didn't notice any difference. Hey wait a minute maybe I'm a 1 star person and didn't even know it! That's why I didn't see any lower class people. Wiz
