Ship account/charge

I know when you board NCL asks for a C.C to bill all charges to. Well I only have 2 credit cards and both of them have pretty low limits. I am able to max the one out and then switch mid cruise for eveything to get charged to the other card ?

I am trying to get the bank to increase the credit limit but if that doesnt happen i was wondering what my options were.

you can do several things:

1) after you have checked in and get on the ship. go to the customer service desk and put some cash on your account.

2) yes, you can switch credit cards. go to the customer service desk and tell them to charge the 1st card with an amount (whatever is left on your balance) and then give them the 2nd card.

you can check the balance, at the customer service desk, any time you want. they will print up your account for you.

We always pay cash for our onboard acct. Give them a couple hundred dollars the first day. I go each day to check my balance and add $$ to be sure we don't run short. The best part of this method is no bill when we get home:o. We swore off the credit card years ago and now it's cash only

We usually see the cashier two to three times during the cruise. While we give them a credit card we like to keep track of things. Sometimes we will ask them to put $500.00 on a different card and that shows up as a credit on our account. Sometimes we will put cash down on the account half way through the cruise. This helps us keep things under control and when we get to the end there are no surprises. On our last cruise we used three different cards during the course of the cruise.

On the newer ships you can check your onboard account on your cabin TV.

You can also pre-pay your cabin service charge ( $12 per day per person ) weeks before the cruise.

We pre paid are service charge, had a large onboard credit and put cash on our account whenever the wife got stuff, we also don't buy drinks onboard but we do have alcohol ( don't ask ) we only had a couple of shore excursions to pay for with the CC.

You could each use a different card when you check in, in essence both cards would be used for your room account.

We were on a 14 day Epic, and made regular draws from the casino window.

They would put a temp hold on the $2,000 we drew, and then on the final day, charged the same card the full balance for our room. This meant that the last five or six days of casino draws was held against the card IN ADDITION to the final balance.

This might not be the scenario the poster was asking about, but keep in mind the cruise line has the right to do these type of temp authorizations, and then come back on the final day and lock up your credit limit.

The only thing I want to add to Toyz posting is make sure you do this during the day. As the below poster stated you can withdraw up to $2000.00 a day against your onboard account, but really it is up to $2000.00 per day against each credit card you have on file. One time we wanted more than the $2000.00 that day (it's a long story but it is actually the casino's day which for this particular instance was more than just one day.. weird I know). Anyway they told us we could put another credit card on file and then get another $2000.00, however the problem was it has to be done during Accountings business hours. What they are I do not know, but I know when we went to do it Accounting was closed.

We have had this happen also, but it didn't actually hold up what we could charge up against the limit. I never understood why it didn't, but we charged right up to the limit on the card we used for that cruise and still had WAY over the limit on "pending charges" or authorizations.. whatever they were called..from the casino withdrawels.

This happened on my last cruise, and the Mastercard rep said that he was really surprised that NCL hadn't released the pre-auths when they got final authorization.

The downside was that I'd spent so much, when you doubled it as well... it maxed my card and then realy small charges were getting rejected.

The CC company apologized, and said they were going to escalate it, to in turn as NCL to release pre-auths once they've been paid.
