I always take lots of small bills ($1's and $5's) for tipping. It starts with the taxi/shuttle driver, then the porters who take your luggage, room service, and on and on throughout the cruise and at ports.

I always bring those Yankee Candle smell good little hanging things for the bathroom. I also put fabric softner dryer sheets in the suitcases for everything to smell fresh. The dryer sheets also go in each shoe for a fresher feeling. My DH always brings the bungee cord....he has so much fun with drying things on our balcony from this cord!

This was taken from the carnival web site on what you CAN NOT BRING ONBOARD:

Safety Precautions due to "Safety Precautions", the following items are not permitted onboard:

Irons

Heating Pads

Candles

No Weapons Policy: Due to our "No Weapons Policy" and heightened security, guests are not permitted to bring on board:

Firearms or weapons of any kind

Pepper spray and mace

Safety Concerns: Due to "Safety Concerns", the following items cannot be utilized on board nor are permitted on board:

Bicycles

Surfboards

Scooters

Boats/Canoes

Scuba Tanks (empty or full)

Due to "Safety Concerns", the following items cannot be utilized on board but may be brought on board for use in port, only:

Roller Blades/Skates

Snorkel Gear

Skateboards

Golf Clubs

Fishing Rods (packed)

Tennis Rackets

Kites (packed)

Miscellaneous Concerns

Musical Instruments:For the comfort of all our guests, musical instruments can only be brought on board if the guest is performing and this performance has been pre-approved by the Group Department.

Radios/Boom Boxes: For the comfort of all our guests, radios and boom boxes can be used with headphones or ear pieces when used in public areas.

Floatation Devices: For the comfort of all our guests, rafts, tubes and floatation devices other than those used as life-preservers (water wings) cannot be used in the swimming pools on board.

Metal Detectors: Guests are not permitted to use metal detectors on board because anything found on board would "belong" to Carnival Cruise Lines. We would then try to return the item to the guest.

Wrapped Gifts: Guests may bring wrapped gifts on board; however, due to heightened security, the gift may have to be unwrapped, upon request.

VCRs/Nintendo/Play Units: These items cannot be utilized on board because of the incompatibility of the units with the stateroom televisions.

Fish Caught on Fishing Expeditions: The fish cannot be brought on board; it must be shipped home.

but I thought power strips and candles were not alowed on the ship. A complete search on packing list should help.

I've never heard of an issue with power strips. And I think SKP was referring to the Yankee Candle air fresheners, not the actual candles.

What item did you WISH you would have packed?

Night light for the bathroom.

Extension cord

An extra bag packed at the bottom of your suitcase to carry home extra stuff home and or to have for the stuff you need overnight the last night.

An extra swimsuit.....they never seem to get dry and they get smelly after a while.

Prepertion H Cooling Gel, to kill the pain of sun poisoning

Over the door shoe thingy!

Ear plugs.

"Bonamine" for motion sickness.(Just in case)

Suction-cup baskets' for shampoo and soap bottles. Never a good place to set anything while you're washing your hair!

birth-control pills......

travel alarm clock. The wake up calls were only somewhat reliable.

Bottled water. It is so expensive on the ship.

Pain killer (Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.)

Cold medication. I'd hate to wake up on the second day of the cruise with a head cold coming on and nothing to take.

Large thermal mug. If you don't drink the foo-foo drinks and you don't buy a pop card, you have to rely on water, lemonade, ice-tea, etc. from the ship and the glasses available are small. To have a large thermal mug I could fill with ice tea to take by the pool would be ideal.

Binoculars. They would also be handy when you see dolphins or other sea life in the water near your ship as we did at breakfast a couple mornings -I would love to have gotten a closer look.

Lanyards

digital camera.

For the ladies . . . . . EXTRA feminine hygiene products! Flights, change of altitude, activity, etc. can make things "unreliable" if you know what I mean. I spent $15 for a one day supply in the ship's gift shop.

A small, light-weight, over the shoulder purse. I was able to keep my room key, sunglasses, and a few other items with me at all times without worrying about what I was going to do with my purse. It was also extremely helpful during shore excursions. I went on a dolphin experience thing where we had to leave our extra items under a little bench...the purse was easy to hide under my normal clothes.

AND....

DUCT TAPE !

Power strip has either 4 or 6 outlets depending on size. Also has a 'breaker' if you overload the circuit! One outlet in the bathroom (head), normally.. :)

IMHO you dont need all that stuff...On the new ships there is tons of storage. Their is a hairdryer in the drawer.

Here is what I found I needed:

2 gallon ziploc bags

a travel alarm clock ( I dont wear a watch on vacation)

a lanyard(for my ds..I just used the free thing they gave in the casino..wrapped it on my arm)

suntan lotion

moisturizer

On new ships, there are shower gel and shampoo dispensers.

I dont buy tons of stuff..tshirts...so no extra bags needed.

Here is what I came up with on my last night for the toiletries. I brought samples of face cleanser, a travel toothpaste, hairgel, etc. After using them on morning of debarkation, I threw them out...nothing more to pack. I had never thought of doing this before. I am doing this from now on.

You can find one of the shoe thingys at walmart or target. I think I paid around $8 or $9 but it was great. There have been a lot of people on here saying that they did not use them but there were two girls in our cabin and it was the best thing we brought. And believe me, Bob Barker would have loved us, we had everything you can imagine.

We were on the Holiday and it is the only cruise I've been on so maybe the newer ships have more counter space but it kept everything neat. A good investment.

The shoe thingy can be found at your local Wal-mart or Target. They are $12 and I have only seen them in one size. I have the 24 shoe one and was really surprised that I was able to fill it up, but all of my counters were nice and clean. Nothing lieing around.

Thanks everyone! I checked out target, I got one for $5.39 plus tax. It was on sale:D I got the 24 pocket, my DH says he can take off a few if I want. I probably won't need it or use it, but I can always use it at home too:p I have enough shoes to put it to some use.

A wrap because the dining room and show rooms are very cold. That is the only complaint I have ever had cruising. I love everything they have to offer and I bought byself a Carnival jacket many cruises ago and just bring it with me. Doesn't look great on formal night but i take it anyway. Have great time.
