I know they have washers/dryers but I don't have a clue what the cost is. I needed to go get some quarters and wonder how much it cost. I wanted to was clothes 1/2 way through cruise so I don't have to pack as much. Anyone have any idea. Thanks.

It varies just a bit by ship but expect three dollars to wash, three dollars to dry. Some ships still charge two dollars to dry. Small containers of soap and fabric softener are available for a dollar each.

Around mid week they will have a sale for your steward to take your laundry, has always been 20.00 for all you can get in the bag.

I for one will pay for laundry to be done, I'm on vacation and I'm not about to hang around laundry rooms. However I don't have kids cruising with me so it's not a lot of laundry, if I had munchkins I'd probably be hanging out at the laundry room.

Cheers, Carole

As far as quarters, we get them from the Purser's desk or the casino, so if you were planning on getting them ahead of time, don't worry. Since we're going to be gone an additional 5 days, plus the cruise we'll be doing laundry too. I purchased the Purex sheets, and have used them at home already and they work great.:)

Thanks Nancy. Yes I bought some of those Purex sheets yesterday and tried them out. Easy to pack. Thanks for letting me know about where to get quarters. Now I don't have to lug them around. I figure it would cost around $6-8 to wash but I am ok with that. I don't mind hanging around laundryroom for an hour.

Not to contradict the Host (and maybe I'm not, really), but I remember the machine costs on our last cruise (on the Conquest) to be even cheaper than he quoted. I'll bitch and complain if I think I'm being nickel and dimed, or over-charged, but this was one area where I really thought Carnival deserved a tremendous amount of credit for not gouging.

On that cruise, I had trouble with the soap-box vending machine. I mentioned it to the steward and the next thing I knew, there was a free box of laundry detergent waiting for me to use.

While I sort of understand the "I'm on vacation, I don't want to do laundry" mentality, I guess I don't see it as any sort of big deal. How much effort is it to put your stuff in a machine, come back 30 minutes later to put it in another machine, then come back 45 minutes later to take it out". That last cruise was during Survivor season, so we started the laundry Thursday evening, watched the show, checked-in during commercials and we were done.

I guess when I'm on vacation I'm just happy to be on my own schedule (except on a cruise ship) and wearing comfortable clothes (except on elegant night) so that cooking or doing laundry are barely even inconveniences (let alone "chores"), which is why we usually take kitchenettes or rent condos when we're on a regular, non-cruise vacation.

FYI - I used the Purex sheets on the ship last year and a few of my tank tops came out of the dryer with some dark stains on them. Like a water stain, but not water if that makes sense - a couple of large dark spots. Not sure if it was there washer and/or the dryer, because I used them at home and didn't have a problem with them :(

I've not had occasion to use the public laundry facilities on the ships in quite a long time and instead rely on my Platinum perks. I base that cost on what friends paid on the Ecstasy during our group cruise in February. I recall the prices being two bucks for each function, however...

I did laundry for the first time on our last cruise. I too took Purex sheets. They seemed to work ok. I think it was $3.00 to wash and dry. My load of whites did come out very yellowed. I wont do whites again!

We had the laundry room right down the hall so it worked out well for us. Much easier than trying to pack a carry extra suitcases. I will do this again.

The bag they give you is a paper bag but a small one. I would imagine it would MAYBE hold as much as a plastic grocery store bag not stufed full.

I keep meaning to actually stuff it to see what it really holds.

Hmmm, now I'm thinking about going up stairs and taking half the clothes out of the kids suitcase (especially the boys b/c they wear the same size)....

How big is that $20 bag for the steward to take?

We use the same bag for our laundry as Platinum and we stuff a fair amount in there... several pairs of shorts, t-shirts, capris, slacks and jeans...

It's not a huge bag but it does hold quite a bit if you cram it in!

Just off b2b on the Freedom - wash $3 - dry $3 - soap $1

We did the fill a bag for $15 - wash and folded and returned same day (pick up 10AM) and man did we fill it. 13 tops (Ts, shells, polo shirts, mens dress shirts) 2 kahki pants 3 shorts

The trick is to roll tight and pack in - when it was brought back had to be packed in 2 bags. Well worth the $15 - we washed underwear, socks, bathing suits on our own once (just don't like others to handle my undies - for their benefit, not mine)

For 1 week you really don't need to do laundry unless you realllllllly pack light. I would just throw a dryer sheet or two in a suitcase under the bed and use as a laundry hamper - just zip it up and when get home take directly to the laundry room. No sorting needed.

I went to one cruisers cabin and showed them how to do the roll and they could not believe it when I kept asking for more clothes. (they were seasoned cruisers and never thought to do it). I always laid a couple of bucks on the bag as your steward does it and he was more than willing when a couple of bucks came his way.

LOL! Thanks for the tip, mizdkc! A glass of wine and a book makes doing laundry sound exciting ... maybe I can try that at home.

Good idea -- practice, practice, practice before boarding the ship!

You won't believe how much you can fit in that bag. Be prepared to do laundry but I got a lot of clothes in the bag, when it was returned to me thay had to use two bags.

I like using the laundry rooms on Carnival too. It usually involves a glass of wine and a book, though. :)

I never waited in the room with my clothes-- There is never chairs in there- do you sit on the floor?

I throw the clothes in the washer then go have breakfast- by the time we come back they are on the spin cycle. Throw them in the dryer--go back to the cabin to get ready for the day.

Sea days--- that laundry room will be kinda packed. Try to do it on a port day BEFORE leaving off the ship

On our Dream cruise, our nephew and son packed one of those bags. The cabin steward told them to pack more in and she'd be back the next day to pick it up. She even showed them how to roll the clothes tightly and pack them in. We did the same with ours and we all definately got our money's worth. The only thing is, they don't use bleach and the whites came back a little dingy looking.

We had the same thing happen on the Triumph last year with some white clothing. We didn't use the Purex sheets, just whatever they had in the dispenser, so figured it was from the machines. We got home, washed those items again and the stains came out.

Nope -- no sitting on the floor. I have always encountered chairs in the laundry room. Maybe it depends on the ship. :)

This is exactly what we did Tbay, just roll stuff tight, but I let them do the underwear too, I hate laundry, won't do it on vacation. I'd rather wash dishes, however not for a couple thousand people  lol.
