Cruising without kids

The only way to cruise.....I would never take kids on a cruise. I don't have any to take. This is my time and I don't feel I would want to babysit. It's also a time for a husband and wife to reconnect and rekindle what may have become routine. With kids, you'd be better off staying home and take them to a park. $1000 (by the time you pay for ticket and tours and everything else they would want) and you have to worry where the kid is 24-7 is not worth it. Leave em home and enjoy the time. It'll be memories you'll never forget.

You might want to check into a cruise line that is not so family oriented if you want to go kid free. I think it goes without saying, lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean are known for their kid programs so you're more likely to encounter kids year round.

Instead of cruising Carnival, look into Celebrity, far fewer kids on that line. Usually the weeks following Labor day are the least expensive because most schools are starting late August, early September. Don't forget, it is also hurricane season too.

I am afraid it is almost futile trying to find a (lesser time) cruise to avoid babies/toddlers/kids. Parents yank them out of school anyways , or bring the diaper gang with them .

I have since given up on trying to find a more appropriate (childfree) cruise time. I pick the ship and Itinerary that suits me.(and bite the bullet)

Have you looked into any of the all inclusives that are adult only? That might fit your need. The Palace has some great locations as does Sandals.

You are right about no "no kid" vacation times. We vacation with our kids in December before school break and it always surprises me the number of other families who are vacationing as well.

Folgy,

We're in the initial stages of planning an adults-only CC group cruise for sometime in '06. Interested?

Folgy, (and any others) Just curious, have you ever considered Oceania? They have no kids programs onboard, therefore, do not attract many kids. I have looked at their itineraries and pricing and it all looks pretty good to me. Of course, the smaller ships also attract me, less flash, silly games and attractions, more upscale and adult ambience.

Something we will look into as soon as we no longer have to take our kids along.

I think that the begining of September (after Labor Day) is a good time to take a childless cruise. Most kids are just going back to school and parents are less likely to take them out during this time becasue they are aclimating to a new grade/environment.

Despite having Carnival tell us previously that our proposed sail date was a "go," they have now decided to reposition the Liberty back to Europe during that week.

We're now looking at a Plan B for the Adults-Only CC Group Cruise.

They have year-round school now with one month breaks several times a year, so it's really hard to tell when's a good time; however, I'm guessing you minimize it by not going during those traditional time off, such as 6/1 - 9/15, the week before, during, and after Thanksgiving, the week before and after the two weeks of Christmas break, and the week of Easter and the week after. That's my strategy anyway.

I have an 8 year old, and she's always travelled well, but I don't want to face other people's misbehaving kids and the parents who let their kids do whatever they want... I'm sure we all don't mind travelling with well-mannered children... they are sometimes better than the adults!

Therefore, I am one of those parents who pull her child out of school for the sake of a vacation, but I go out of my way to make it educational. She will have her schoolwork that she would have missed (it won't count but more for practice), books to read about Alaska, and daily journaling. When we visit sites, I read out of my travel guides but would explain it so that she understands.

We've resceduled for the 8-day Eastern Caribbean sailing on the new Carnival Liberty, departing FLL on April 1, 2006. Pricing to follow.

I persume this is plan B ? I was very interested in seeing how this adult only cruise was going to unfold. My wife and I have not booked a cruise as of yet which is very unusual for us as we like to cruise twice a year. I just cannot endure other peoples babies/kids and refuse to subject myself to this type of family cruising experience anylonger. We are just watching and waiting to see if anything materializes for people without kids or people that wish to cruise in peace without their own children.

note* I have tried longer cruises and supposedly school times that might eleviate the child traffic onboard ship to NO avail. I probably would complain less if I could bring my children Toby and Micheal.(my fur babies) ;)
