Anung Un Rama Posted March 31, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Just heard second hand about a radio update of the Pride being damaged by high winds in Florida. Not sure the extent of the damage just that there were no injuries. Can anyone confirm or elaborate on this?
H82seaUgo Posted March 31, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2011 i thought i read it was leaving late due to the high winds..... per John Heald 5 hours ago.... The Carnival Pride has yet to leave Port Canaveral due to very, very high winds. I am in touch with the CD Kirk who will keep me informed and I in turn will keep you informed as well. mom2lillirissa Posted March 31, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2011 yep, I'm here in Central Florida and the weather has been horrific today! Not a day you'd wanna be out on a cruiseship. good thing I leave in a couple more days!
PCHENG Posted March 31, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Instead of an overnight in Freeport, I would much rather Carnival drop Freeport and do an overnight in Nassau, but of course that may not be viable considering Nassau is further away. Seriously, what nightlife is there to do at or near the Freeport harbor? With Nassau at least you can hit the casino and nightclubs of Atlantis or drink yourself silly in Senor Frog. I will be very disappointed if I am a passenger on this cruise. Pride's itenary wasn't the greatest to begin with. With Port Canaveral rained out and Nassau cancelled, this cruise is in essence a 7 day cruise to Freeport only. Can't blame Carnival for the weather, but still disappointing none the less. DaDivaMom Posted March 31, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2011 according to our local news cast the ship was blown from the moorings by a wind blast and sustained slight damage but sailed. No injuries. We've had two days of horrible thunderstorms with some tornados. Wind gusts up to 100 mph.
ooulio Posted March 31, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 31, 2011 When we hit Freeport, we met a guy who showed us to take a bus by Burger King. It was only a couple minutes. It was cheap. We went to Crystal Palace Casino and Beach. It was beautiful. They were so nice there. We got a ticket up front. WE each won $50.00. Then someone else gave me something there and won another couple hundred. I love Freeport now. Hoping to go back and find it again on our next cruise. DarthGrady Posted March 31, 2011 #14 Share Posted March 31, 2011 reminds me when it happened to an msc vessel: Wow, thats crazy. How bad would it suck to be walking across the gangway, and then get dumped into that nasty port water?
gemsm Posted March 31, 2011 #15 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Crystal Palace is in Nassau. The Isle Casino used to be in Freeport at Our Lucaya but is closed. I don't remember there being a Burger King in Freeport back in 90 when I was there. Has that particular FF place invaded Freeport now as well as Nassau? Freeport has a Subway, Domino's Pizza, Dunkin Donuts. The casino IS open still not closed as another poster said it is in Port Lucaya and it is owned by Treasure Bay Casinos who purchased it in 2009 from Isle of Capri
spideyfam Posted March 31, 2011 #17 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Glad it was not major. We are on her sunday. It's a miracle no one was hurt. Hopefully someone on the ship will write a review.

FlaParrotHead Posted March 31, 2011 #20 Share Posted March 31, 2011 Bands are still coming in off the Gulf (of Mexico) even now and making their way across the state. Here in Tampa it has been one long day of rain, wind, tornados (reported), etc and it's not over yet.
jen&samcantwait Posted April 3, 2011 #21 Share Posted April 3, 2011 We just got back from this cruise today. The winds were clocked at 80 knots, husband & I saw the Tornado warning while having lunch in Cocoa Beach, headed back to the ship early, just in case, and wouldn't you know, the news was right. We were standing on the Lido Deck Aft to watch, the wind came in so hard we had to hold on to the hand rails, lounge chairs & cushions blowing everywhere. Heard a loud bang & looked to the front & saw the front of the ship drifting away from port, then the back moring lines started snapping like rubberbands, all lines gone except for one left on the Aft. A tug was next to us almost all night long keeping us pushed up against the port. I have pics that I will attach in a little while. Captain suddenly dropped anchor, which a letter later said was customary. The sudden drop damaged the mechanism so it couldn't be raised until repaired. Dissapointed about missing Nassau, but this was an experience we will never ever forget, and all said, it was a great cruise!!!!
