Best Beach to snorkel from

We visited Roatan last year and went to the Mayan Princess Hotel. The snorkeling right off the beach was amazing! We are going back again in 2 weeks but wanted to try something different. Does anyone know whether any of these places offer awesome snorkeling directly from the beach?

San Simon

Infinity Bay

Fosters

Bananarama

Thank you!

Most beginners do the snorkeling in the reef area right in front of Tabyanna/Infinity Bay. You can go further than that area if you'd like. But this is where most people find the best variety. Sometimes there is a guy in a small boat feeding the fish, which draws all kinds of activity.

Fosters is the farthest away from this particular area. But... West Bay is only a mile long, so any spot you park yourself is no more than a few min. walk down the beach from the above snorkeling area.

Here's what we did last week (we had a driver for the day):

Got dropped off at Bananarama (free). Walked 3 minutes left to the Tabyana end of the beach by the big rock. Put our gear against the rocks and snorkeled directly from shore. There is kind of a maze of coral here you can follow, or you can go a little deeper so you're not so close. Saw lots of fish, coral and two large starfish here.

Drove to Half Moon Bay at West End and got some free chairs there (can't remember the name but it was all the way at the end). Snorkeled from the small pier there and saw a sea snake, lobsters and a barracuda.

Two great, free snorkeling places! You could probably snorkel directly out from the places you listed, but you would have to swim out further as there is more sand. The coral is closest to the shore at the very end of West Bay and at West End.

dabeers1 is totally correct. Been to West Bay the last 4 years. Most accessible reef in the Caribbean.......be very careful as you go out: the reef comes very close to the surface of the water. As you look out you will see channels to navigate and be away from the reef. Have fun....
