charliegirlac Posted April 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Hi all, For those of you who have travelled to Cozumel before - how likely is it that we miss the port? We have been on cruises before and have missed the port and we are considering doing a private excursion in Cozumel and there is no refund if we miss the port, so i am wondering how often the ship cant dock... Thanks!!

Rare crewsweeper Posted April 6, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Should mention we are travelling on Allure in September!! Well, you're traveling during the hieght of the hurricane season. Certainly no way to predict what the weather will be like. But unless there is a major storm approaching the island, your chances of docking in Cozumel are generally pretty good as the port side of the island faces the mainland not the ocean, even though there are no natural buffers, like hills, to protect the west side from strong winds. Most other Caribbean ports face the ocean directly or have shallow reef areas that require precise navigation and are subject to more frequent missed port insidents. calmpets Posted April 6, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2011 Most tour operators will refund your money if the ship doesn't make it into port, as long as you notify them. Personally I'd pick a different tour operator if the one you are dealing with is being inflexible, since changes of itinerary are outside of your control. maldenmusic Posted April 6, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2011 The only time we have missed docking in Coz was when we were cruising during the swine flu epidemic. They took us to Key West instead, refunded our port charge and gave us 25% off our next cruise.
