Cozzette2 Posted April 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2011 I can't believe I was brave enough to book on Hotwire but I couldn't resist a 4 star for $103 [ not including taxes ] Now, while i got a great deal on the room, I can tell by looking at the pictures that the meals are going to be super spendy. Any ideas for restaurants close enough to walk to? This is in Hollywood and I have no idea what is near by. Any help? Kris
ocngypz Posted April 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2011 First of all, they have THE BEST cupcakes at the coffee bar at the hotel. I would kill for the recipe...lol. They also have wraps, cereal, yogurt. I thought the prices were reasonable. We took a cab over to Gulfstream Park. Lots of different retaurants and shopping. We went in Nov. I used Priceline. $67 a night with tax. Once we got to the hotel for an extra $20 a night, we upgraded to a room with a balcony. As well Hotwire rooms will not have balconies. The front desk has a sheet listing the payable upgrades. Loved the property.
tip Posted April 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2011 We stayed there for a night in January. It is without a doubt the most luxurious hotel at which we have ever stayed! The restaurants are indeed a little "spendy" to say the least ($14 for a burger at the sports bar). There is a pizz/sub shop which is about a five minute walk south. There is also a trolley bus which stops directly in front of the hotel every half hour which will take you further down the beach with connections to downtown Hollywood. The fare is $1. Cozzette2 Posted April 9, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted April 9, 2011 I am so excited to stay there. It really looks gorgeous. I will look into the upgrade. For the price of a burger I can get a balcony:D Thanks for the info on the trolly, that sounds fun and I am totally up for checking out the area. I am glad we have a day and a half to enjoy. We are all into walking so if things are with in a few miles we would appreciate the excersise to work off those cupcakes. Kris
DanJ Posted April 9, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2011 Since you don't mind the walking, just head south from the hotel to Hallandale, and go across the bridge. Lots of restaurants (fast food and sit down) and shopping along that stretch. Lots of stuff within 1 to 1.5 miles of the hotel and if find you want to shop or you ate too much, a cab back will be cheap. Or you can ask at the hotel about their shuttle to the golf course, which is right behind these shopping areas. Not really a lot within the vicinty of the hotel along the beach as it's mostly condo. There is a small restaurant on the beach beside the water tower at Hallandale that I have seen decent reviews for, but it's not a fancy place by any means. Also, if you find a hankering for snacks, there is a 7-11 right beside the Crowne Plaza at Hallandale a little over a quarter mile south.
Cozzette2 Posted April 9, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted April 9, 2011 Thanks Dan, that sounds great. We will be anxious to check the area out. Kris
brunello22 Posted April 11, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2011 Just north of the hotel, about 1-1-/2 miles is the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. There is a plethora of little eateries along the broadwalk. The trolley stops in front of the hotel, so ask the concierge what times the trolley runs. You can take a short taxi ride that way as well. My favorite place to eat is Giorgio's Bakery, across the street from the broadwalk, along the Intracoastal. Here is a link for more info about the area: http://www.visithollywoodfl.org/hollywoodbeachbroadwalk.aspx
Putterdude Posted April 11, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks for the information and the link, we will be staying there in January for a couple of nights. Do you have any idea of what the cab fare is from FFL to the hotel and from the hotel to Port Everglades and if there is a shuttle?
DanJ Posted April 11, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2011 There isn't a shuttle from or to either the airport or port, but I've read on here that taxi is $30-$35 to FLL and PE from the Diplomat.

Not only are there several vey good restaurants but there is a casino and some great shops. The suggestion about the Hollywood Board walk is also a good one. It's a lovely paved 3 mile one way walk with the beach and ocean on one side and shops, mom & pops and many very good restaurants. Across the street is the intracoastal waterway where you can have a nice meal and watch the sunset. From stone crabs during season at Billy's to world famous hamburgers at the dive Le Tub, Hollywood Beach and the Boardwalk is a throwback to the 60's without the concrete jungle of Miami Beach, Hallandale and south Hollywood.
