Comfy beds!

I have been reading on here about how hard and uncomfortable the beds are on the Princess ships, so I was nervous about how bad they would be.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised just how comfy they were.

My mom, my daughter and I were on the Ruby last week, and we all agreed the beds were so comfortable. We had trouble getting DD out of it in the mornings :)

Maybe it was the ship rocking us to sleep or something, but I slept better than I do at home!

We were on Ruby in March in cabin R520 & the bed was hard as a rock! Maybe it was a new mattress ...no idea, but it was uncomfortable. Glad yours was better!

As usual, IMO, people's perception of the beds on Princess is tied to what kind of mattress they sleep on at home.

Like you, mic123, I have no problems with Princess beds, after 10 cruises on 9 different Princess ships.

I don't like the beds, however I tolerate them. I've never used an egg crate so I guess they can't be that bad. I just ensure I'm tired at the end of the day and close it off with a glass or two of wine :p

Hmmm never thought about that...maybe with the wine and being dead tired had something to do with it :)

I agree with another poster that said it has to do with what you are used to at home. I was just really nervous at first. Kind of like "expect the worst and hope for the best".

if you feel the bed is too hard, the steward can remedy the problem with the addition of the foam topper. We slept very comfortably on this last cruise.:D

Princess has my least favorite beds, however I've always been able to get some sleep.....Might have to do with exhaustion, the gentle rocking of the ship, a pina colada (or three), or just the fact that I'm so happy to be on a ship that I just don't care.

 

So far, Carnival has the yummiest beds.....But I much rather everything else on Princess and RCI.

We have found Princess' beds to be extremely hard, egg crates have fixed the matter for us in the past however on the Ruby they have gone to a foam topper and that did not fix the problem for us at all. However, I am very happy that the OP found the beds to their liking.

All beds are not the same, even on the same ship. We have only had one bad experience with beds on Princess. It was on the Star in 2009. The steward told us they had just replaced the mattresses, and our bed was like a slab of concrete. My uncle and aunt next door had a great bed, quite unlike ours.:confused:

Excuse my newbie ignorance :o but can someone explain to me how egg crates work in making the bed more comfortable..??

For people who prefer a pillow top type or a softer mattress, an egg crate pad often helps. It's simply a type of foam topper that is added to the mattress that is bumpy and looks just like an egg crate. Princess mattresses tend to be on the firmer side.
