NU2Cruise55 Posted April 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2011 Hi to all, and thanks for reading. I have a question about the debrakation process. I am sailing on Carnival Legend on May 1st my first cruise and I'm so excited. Can anyone offer some insight to the debrakation process? Which is the better method? I will be in an Ocean Suite so I do have VIP service if that means anything for debrakation. Thanks for any and all help that can be given. Hope everyone enjoys their upcoming cruises. firefly333 Posted April 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2011 I choose to get up and get off as soon as possible. If there are any problems, the lines are going to get longer and longer. I do VIP self debarkation, sometimes its great, sometimes its a mess (like Ecstasy last January). You have to clear out of your cabin anyway by around 9 am, so might as well get up and have breakfast, and get off rather than waiting around for numbers to be called. one time I waited for numbers. Never again, what a zoo.
hankandteri Posted April 12, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2011 Since you're VIP, you'll be among the first to debark the ship. On the last night of the cruise you'll receive a letter telling you to meet up with the other VIP cruisers at one of the lounges at a certain time and you'll be escorted to the front of the exit line. JohninDC Posted April 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2011 I'm not VIP, so I can't speak to that :o, but in general you will get a numbered tag to put onto your luggage. Pack your checked bags the night before your cruise ends, apply the tag and place the bags outside your door by the designated time. VIP may earn you a low number. The next morning they will begin letting passengers off the ship according to their tag number -- if you choose to carry your own bags off you can get off early. If you are not in a rush, enjoy breakfast, relax, and then leave the ship later when the lines are gone. Good luck!:)
*Mach* Posted April 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2011 You also have the option of 'self debarkation' meaning you keep your bags and haul them off with you. Self debark is the first off the ship even before VIP so if you have an early flight or a long drive it may well be an option. As others have said, VIPs will gather at a specific location to be escorted to the front of the line for debark... sometimes... sometimes they forget you and everyone else shuffles off before the staff remembers y'all are still waiting...
floodcasso2 Posted April 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2011 My wife and I tend to do the self disembarkation, where we carry our own luggage off. Always seems to be a little bit more organized than the regular way for us.
near the beach Posted April 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted April 13, 2011 When you book a suite you usually get priority boarding but not priority debarkation. You might want to check the last night on the ship. The debarkation process is getting better all of the time. Two weeks ago we went to breakfast in the main dining room and then back to our cabin to pick up our carry off items. We found a nice place to sit and wait our turn to leave the ship. Once our number was called we were out of the ship in five minutes. We acquired a porter in the baggage claim area and kept walking. To and through customs and the parking garage. JP4GA Posted April 13, 2011 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2011 If you do carry your own bags off of the ship, make sure you are able to do so. Our last cruise was a nightmare becasue it was announced the night before we would be arriving late into port so a lot of people who normally wait for thier numbers to be called decided to carry thier own bags. Many of them had too many bags and could not move around easily causing self debark lasted more than 2 hours. After about a 1.5 hours they called #1 and those trying to get off by themselves were not happy that we were passing them up in the hallways. VIP does normally earn you a number 1. You will also receive a letter as other posters have mentioned letting you know where to meet the other VIP's at for quicker exit.
