You cannot book Sanctuary before boarding. If you book for the entire cruise, the cost is $15.00/day. However, if this is what you are planning to do, my suggestion is you board early and go immediately to Sanctuary to book it.

Whether it is worth it depends on the person. We have booked an inside cabin(to save money) and then booked Sanctuary for the entire cruise. We reserved a double lounger in the shade. Whenever we went, we didn't have to worry about looking for somewhere to sit. The loungers are more comfortable than the ones around the pool. The are Sanctuary stewards that are very attentive - brought me a blanket one day when there was a really cool breeze, always serving nice cold water, etc. The biggest thing is the peace and quiet. If you enjoy the busyness around the pools, then Sanctuary is not for you. If you are looking for somewhere nice and quiet to just lounge or read a book, then Sanctuary is probably the best place to be. We have only booked Sanctuary when we are in an inside cabin, if we have a balcony we do not book it.

We are just back from Sea Princess on 4 April, and we booked the Sanctuary for our 2 week cruise, it cost us $420 for the two of us for the 2 weeks. We went to reception once we were on board and asked if we could book, and they took us up to the Sanctuary, and showed us around and told us all about it.. If you book for each day it was $15, or $10 for half a day either am or pm. You can only book in advance if you pay for the whole duration of your cruise, otherwise I'd heard people were up at 6.30am to book the bed for the day. We thought it was worth it, we were brought cold drinks (water, citrus water free of charge), cold towels were supplied, and cold misting sprays. You can also use their MP3 players if you want to listen to music whilst sitting sunbathing. The beds are very comfortable, and if you book early enough you can get your pick of where you want the beds. Once booked for the cruise, you come and go as you please, and the beds are always available for you.

I wouldn't hesitate to book the Sanctuary again when we sail with Princess in the future.

I've only been on one cruise, on the Ruby. But we did not book the Sanctuary, and we're glad we didn't. We simply never had much free time to just sit around. Somehow it just worked out that way. YMMV.

Next cruise, we'll have a balcony, and I don't think we'll need the Sanctuary then either.

Is it worth it? That's a question only you can answer. For us, it was worth booking it for the whole week on the Ruby. DH spends about 5 hrs. in the sun just about every day. When the itinerary has more than 2 sea days (or days we aren't going to get off the ship) then it is very worth it to us to have the chaises we want, in the location we want, close to the pool.

On port-intensive itineraries, we don't both with it because most people are off the ship and it's easy to get chaise lounges near the forward or aft pools.

Hi. It depends what you like. If you want to sit on a chaise lounge in the shade, there are very few spots on large ships like Ruby, so the Sanctuary is a good option. In addition, the chairs are very comfortable, thanks to thick mattresses, and it is also much more quiet than other places on the ship, particularly on sea days. And if you don't book for the whole cruise, there may not be any seats available on sea days, when you would enjoy it the most.

If you are happy sitting in full sun, or with a lot of activities going on around you, then it is not worth the expense for you. There are also lots of chairs in the sun, but in more quiet areas, at the back of the ship for instance.

If you are uncertain, why not try it on a couple of port days, (often they have room for half days, but sometimes not), and you then you can decide for next time. And visit it the day of boarding to get a sense of it. You may decide to book it there and then.

We were just on the Crown. On the day you board the ship go straight up to the sanctuary and book for the week. Its $15 a day doing it that way and you pick your chairs. We got one of only two double lounge chairs. We enjoyed them the whole week long!!!

We had the port side one on the April 9th sailing, and it was worth every penny.
