We just came back from Grand Turk last week. There is a car rental place right there if you want to do that, or you can also go to the main road outside the gate and rent a golf cart. I've read, though, about people having problems with some being in poor condition and stranded when one burst into flames. What we decide to do was walk out of the port area to where the taxis were waiting and talked with a couple of the drivers about giving us an island tour. The first guy didn't really want to unless we could get some more people to go but another guy we talked to said he would and we negotiated $25 per person. Because of the taxi line rules, we had to walk out of the gate and meet him there. His name was "EZ", and he gave us a really great tour. There is not much to see on the island (small town, light house, etc.), but it was really interesting to hear about what life there is like and what basic necessities cost. We went to all the places on the ship's tour and more including looking at different houses, the cemetary, and even the town dump (the trash is shipped out to Miami). EZ told us lots of stories about his family and other people on the island. I like to learn about the places I visit, and this was a great way to do it. When we returned to the port, we looked around in the stores and then walked along the beach to the right of the pier where all of the conch shells are.

To be perfectly honest, there really isn't enough on Grand Turk to justify a "tour" or even a car rental (which we did). The beach in front of the cruise center is gorgeous, but if that's not what you want, I don't know what to suggest.
