flagger Posted March 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2005 We are cruising on the Millie in January '06. I know I have seen people post about it. What is the best hotel to stay at pre-cruise. I think we will only be doing on day pre-cruise for this trip depending on the deal we get on airfare.
CINDON Posted March 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2005 We liked the Embassy Suites on 17th Street. We paid $58.00/night on priceline. That price included a full cooked to order breakfast each morning and a 2 hour manager's reception (free cocktail party) each evening for two people. We figured that the room ended up being free. What a Country.

raudacruise Posted March 14, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 14, 2005 Yes, they have shuttle service. Also, if you do get a reservation would recommend you call and request a room facing the port so you can see some of the ships (although over a pretty bland spot of oil tanks). skyview851 Posted March 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 14, 2005 I would NOT recommend the Radisson Bahia Mar. Too expensive & not very clean.
lindajeff Posted March 14, 2005 #6 Share Posted March 14, 2005 Holiday Inn Express worked fine for us. Included cereal, toast, etc. for breakfast and shuttle from airport and to pier.
raudacruise Posted March 14, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2005 Flagger, forgot to mention. Across the street from Embassy Suites is a grocery store. So if you don't want to take the little one out to eat thats an option. The suites have a microwave, frig and a dining room table. Also across the street a very nice wine/liquor store (hope I don't get bashed too much for mentioning it). Finally, next door is an Outback Steakhouse (had to bring that up given your background ;). Seriously, you can get a takeout order and eat in your suite.
bailey2004 Posted March 14, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 14, 2005 We stayed at the Marriott Marina, nice views of the ships, priceline $75.00 - free shuttle to the pier. Not as good a deal as CINDON, but it was a nice resort type hotel.
PoohUnderstands Posted March 14, 2005 #9 Share Posted March 14, 2005 Hi! I live locally and if you want a nice place and the lowest price is not the only criteria, I highly recommend the Marriott on 17th Street. Location is great(try to get a high up room with a southerly view); close to food, groceries, stores, Water Taxi, port, etc. That would be my choice. In fact have stayed there over the July 4th weekend a couple times. In fact, if you are a walker, you can even walk to the Fort Lauderdale Beach and stores. It will take you about 20 minutes or so to walk to it. Sidewalks the whole way, too.

While I totally agree the location is great, our experience 2 weeks ago found a hotel which was in a disreputable state. Our room was not clean. Carpets were filthy and cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. Considering the average room rate, this was unacceptable.
canderson Posted March 15, 2005 #11 Share Posted March 15, 2005 AmeriSuites 17th st worked well for us. They pick up at the airport and drop you at the cruise terminal the next morning. It's a cab ride up to the riverwalk, but then again, so are most of the others. It's worth the ride up the 1st night to troll for dinner.
LadeeBug100 Posted March 15, 2005 #12 Share Posted March 15, 2005 Does anyone have info on the Comfort Inn / Cruiseport South as far as condition, location, what is near by (restaurants, grocery store/ convenience store)? It is located on Stirling Rd. Thanks
mii Posted March 15, 2005 #13 Share Posted March 15, 2005 A really good board for informations is the pre-post hotel board. There is a wealth of information there. Marilyn
DeRon Posted March 15, 2005 #14 Share Posted March 15, 2005 We're staying at the new Hollywood HardRock Hotel in April. I have read great things about it. I will post a review when we return end of April.
opatija Posted March 15, 2005 #15 Share Posted March 15, 2005 You will love the Hard Rock Hotel. I was there in December and throughly enjoyed my stay there. Everyone is very friendly. All of the outdoor shopping area was not completed when I was there - restaurants, stores, etc. still in the process of setting up, but I bet by now mostly everything is in. Rooms good size - beds are so comfy! Enjoy!
alpal1993 Posted March 15, 2005 #16 Share Posted March 15, 2005 I don't have to stay in a hotel when I cruise out of Ft Lauderdale, but if you are into nightlife and a brand new multi million dollar facility,I recommend The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.Although it is not on the beach(441 and Sterling Rd) the pool area is fabulous. There is a Casino ,many restaurants, outside entertainment, specialty shops and a whole lot of fun.It is about a 10 minute ride to the port and airport.
