On your own, cruise excursion or independent excursion?

What's the best way to see San Juan? We'll be there in three days (!), from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. It's too late to pre-book with the cruiseline, but we can book when we get on the ship if we need to. We were thinking with such a short time there (with early dinner seating), we'd do it on our own, but perhaps there are good independent guides at or near the port. Advice?

At the end of the pier you will find all sorts of tour guides that will take you on a tour for $15.00 or so. We saw new San Juan, El Morro, a beach and ended up in Old San Juan. Getting in at 3:00 you should be able to see El Morro first and go inside. It closed at 4:30 when we were there so we only saw the outside. We had early seating also and just missed dinner that night because we wanted to see San Juan. For us it was worth missing one dinner. We'll be there early April and will miss dinner again to spend the time in San Juan sightseeing. Great city !!!
