Day room in Freeport/Our Lucaya?

cruising with the family

Hello! There are 6 of us cruising in 2 weeks (WOOHOO!) to Freeport. We are planning to go to Our Lucaya to shop in the marketplace for a little bit, then hit the beach. Just wondering if it would be cheaper to get a room at one of the hotels for a day, versus paying $20 per person to have access to the hotel's pool, etc. It would also give us a place to get out of the sun, should anyone in our party wish to do so.

Is this even an option? Has anyone been successful in doing this?

They've raised the day pass fee to $30.00 per person now, and have closed off the beach in front of the resort to anyone who doesn't pay up. Not a problem though, there is a public beach access just to the West next to the Police station by the bus stop that anyone can access the beach for free. Bring a towel, walk down to the beach, and buy your food and drinks from Billy Joe's Conch Shack (turn left at the beach, only a few steps), or the Coral Reef Beach Bar (turn right at the beach, walk 5 min). You still have full access to all the watersports - actually the location is more convenient for that. Other beaches, such as Xanadu and Taino Beach are still free as well - just ask your taxi driver. The ocean is so nice, no need for a swimming pool, and you can find shade at either bar if you want it, or bring a small beach umbrella with you.

Wow. $180 for access to the beach for our group is a LOT. The reason why I wanted access to the hotel is that we have some kids in the group, and they always find non-salt water pools refreshing during the cruise. Plus, we will definitely need bathrooms.

Yes, it's quite a rip. There are restrooms at the two bars I mentioned - you can use them as long as you buy something (food or drink). Taino beach has public restrooms. Xanadu has a beach bar with restrooms to use if you buy something.

Thanks for the tip Johann .. We were planing on in front of the resort ...but Billy joes was on the list .. so we may need to go that route since we are trying to save a little cash .. was going to get the wifes massages at the resort .. maybe we will wait for Nassau for that as we have a place there already .. is there restrooms at / near the conk shack? I always need to give the drinks back LOL

The Reef Village - was the Sheraton - is closed down til further notice so the only hotel ocean front at Our Lucaya is the Radisson - used to be the Westin.

You can book a room online at expedia for around $129 plus taxes and other fees. That would be much cheaper than the $30pp. Just don't have all come to the hotel together. Get off at the shopping area and have 4 go for the room.

There is a restroom at both Billy Joe's and Coral Reef, which you can use if you buy something from them. Same with Xanadu if you go that route, while Taino Beach has public free restrooms. There are chairs at Coral Beach Hotel you can rent for $3.00 each. Otherwise you might consider Taino Beach - chairs at Junkanoo Beach Club are $5.00 each.
