REVIEW - Carnival Legend 5/8 - 5/15

Great review - and loving all the stories and details! (but I would think the tap water and water on the Lido were one and the same? Am I wrong?)

And we did a family cruise on the Miracle a few years back and opened up the balcony dividers and it was amazing!

You would think so, but they tasted completely different to me! Maybe I'm just crazy - but I really don't mind tap water in general, and this was just not good.

Day 2 continued -

Because it was Mother's Day, they came around and gave every woman a pink carnation, and then we also got a special chocolate heart dessert. None of us at our table were mothers, but I do have a cat, and it was a nice gesture for the ladies. The chocolate heart thing was pretty delicious too - I was on chocolate overload that night. We didn't get out of dinner until close to 10 because the dining room opened up late and it took a while to get all the food out.

Really?? While I'm not a mother (unless you count my adorable 7yr old beagle, Smeagol) I was neither offered a carnation nor did I get the chocolate heart dessert. Maybe they only did that for the set dining as I had the anytime option??

Maybe so - I remember walking around before dinner and seeing a lot of women with carnations that I later realized they must have gotten at the early seating. None of the women at my table were mothers, but everyone who stayed for dessert got a flower and the dessert.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we went up and played mini golf after the muster drill and before we passed under the Skyway bridge. I thought the mini golf course was fun and it was quite challenging with the wind...

Ok, last picture before I stop for the night and continue tomorrow. As we were walking by the doors out to the promenade to go to dinner the first night, J goes, "hey look!" and I look outside, see this sunset, and I RAN out on the promenade, tripping over the lip of the door to take this picture :p I saved myself from falling and I think it was worth it :)

Oh, one last picture for Gecko - this is the view looking down from the balcony to whatever that mess is in the ocean  - it's not completely straight down because if it was straight down you would see the promenade - but it will give you an idea :)

The propellars are churning up the sand...the water is a little more swallow near Belize than in some other areas.

We sail the Legend this Sunday. :) Approximately What time do you pass under the bridge?

I want to know too- But I am aware that it depends on what time we actually set sail.

I had anytime dining too and they didn't give me a flower or a heart either - and I am a mother of 2 human beings (along with one adorable dog and one adorable cat). Also thought the food that first night was pretty bad - I had the fried chicken (main course) and it was awful and DH had the flat iron steak which looked good but was tough and tasteless. Luckily the second night the food was much better. One thing I did LOVE about the anytime dining were the tables for two people around the railing - we requested one of these tables every time and never had to wait more then a few minutes to get one. Awesome 2 seater tables!!

I want to say it was at 5:45 - I remember the captain coming and saying it would be at something:45, but I can't remember if it was 5:45 or 6:45.... I seem to recall thinking that the people in the early seating were missing out, so maybe it was 6:45? I'll check my time stamp on the camera when I get home, or maybe someone else on the cruise can chime in.

Thanks for writing this review - it is VERY entertaining! We were on the same cruise. We noticed the girl running to the ship in Roatan...usually people boo when people are late but everyone was cheering her on - I told my husband it was because she looked to be a young attractive female...I mean seriously - if it was some old man or something I think we would have heard a bunch of boos like we usually do. I found that interesting. I was wondering why the heck someone would come to the ship so late but I didn't know she had lost her card so now I feel sorry for her - she must have been a nervous wreck! I'm glad she didn't get booed at (except by your neighbors who I couldn't hear). My DH was the one yelling "run Forest run!" (a few too many times...)

Hahahaha that's hilarious. A couple of our tablemates were about 15 minutes late getting back to the ship in Cozumel and they said they got booed!

That could be the reason they let the late seating in late, all the early diners showed up late after watching the Legend go under the bridge.

I had early dining but changed to late for my up coming cruise as not to be late for the first seating by staying on deck to get pictures going under the bridge.

These and the post that followed. May be it's my browser, but I can see some of your pictures. Like the water picture with the sand raising.

On to Day 2 of the cruise - Day at Sea

I don't have much to report about this day because a lot of it was spent laying around  For some reason, I woke up at 7 am (I can barely do this at home, no idea why I did it on vacation) and went out to sit on the balcony to enjoy the sun before we went to breakfast. We hit the buffet for breakfast and I always found the breakfast food to be delicious - there was always some kind of breakfast potato, and then waffles, pancakes, or french toast (or a combination of those), bacon, some other meat stuff (I don't know what because I never got it), and diced melon. I also really liked this Norlander wheat bread they had every morning for breakfast, so my typical breakfast was a couple pancakes or a couple of pieces of french toast, some melon, a slice or two of wheat bread, and some potatoes. I really loved that they had tiny ramekins for the syrup so I didn't have to put it on my plate and get it over everything else! They also always had a lot of pastries - I ate a sticky bun one morning and it was delicious.

After breakfast we hit the Serenity deck because I figured that my freakishly early awakening would allow me to get a good spot. Sure enough, we lucked out and there was a hammock available, so J and I laid in the hammock for a while. He only lasted about an hour or so before he wanted to go off and play basketball, but I stayed there for a good 2 hours before I got too hot. I went over to watch J playing basketball for a bit, and then I think we hung out on the balcony for a good part of the afternoon and had a late lunch. I didn't really hang out at the pool at all this sea day.

We had to get ready for dinner a little earlier than usual since it was the first elegant night and we were getting pretty gussied up. Once we were all fancy, we went down to the dining room and there was a huge hold up on deck 2 that we thought was the dining room not being open yet... so I forced J to sit for a few pictures. The photographer was very specific about his poses so it took a little longer than expected and as it turns out, the pictures weren't that great - but one of them was so amusing to us that we bought it purely for the entertainment value. Anyway, after taking pictures we skirted the crowd (by now we figured out it was just people in line for pictures) by going up the stairs and back down, and headed in to dinner.

Only 6 of the 8 were at dinner this night because the Atlanta couple was missing - and we learned that the Tampa couple didn't care much for the Atlanta couple based on the night before. We had a nice time at dinner and everyone was looking good. I think I had some fresh fruit as my appetizer and the chile rellenos as my entree - the chile rellenos were just ok, kind of flavorless. I think this was the night I had the caramelized apple pastry dessert and it was just ok too.

After dinner I was determined to stay up later and do some fun stuff, so after J ran off to the casino to play poker, I wandered around and popped into the piano bar before I went to the dance club. I have to say that the woman singing in the piano bar was not good. She is a good pianist and she has a very good voice, but her voice only lends itself to a certain genre of song, so she did not sound great singing a wide variety of songs. I LOVED the piano bar on my last Carnival cruise, but I literally stayed in this one for about 1.5 songs before leaving, never to return.

After wandering around, I went to see one of the R rated comedy shows. This one was with William Troxler, and he was pretty good. (Side note: I don't go to any shows, so I can't tell you about any of that - the only entertainment I saw was the comedians, and I saw 3 of the 4.)

Then I headed to Medusa's Lair. The dance club was pretty lively when I was there (from around 11:15 on) and people were dancing and having fun. I didn't dance because I was saddled with a bag that I had taken with me after dinner that had J's Sudoku book in it  but I watched people dance for a good while. I think J and I actually ended up back at the room around the same time, and J had lost again at poker, but not nearly as much as the first night

Next up... Cozumel!
