Camp Carnival "Night Owl"

Nothing confusing about this at all. The first listed activity is nothing more than baby sitting. The second is a party type event that is not charged by the hour but is charged for the entire event. It will include things other than simple babysitting.

As always, if it doesn't work for your family for whatever reason, your option is to not participate.

How do the staff get a hold of the parents? Do you get a pager or something? I don't remember ever hearing people being paged on loud speakers - but then, I've never paid much attention either.

This will be my first cruise with kids.

I think they give pagers/cell phones for the younger kids. I remember having to carry one when my daughter was under 5.

If you have a question to ask, why not just ask it instead of pulling up a nearly 5 year old thread:confused:

If your child is in camp during any activity, you must pick them up unless you have given them permission to sign themselves in and out.

At the end of Late Night parties, kids are escorted to their room by counselors unless you are told to pick them up regardless as to whether or not they have sign in and out privileges during the day. Several experiences with Camp Carnival and Camp Ocean and this has always been the way it has gone with those themed parties that end late. They don't just set your kids free at the end.

Circle C is different. They don't have an activities that extend past 1am. Don't know about Club H2O for the older kids.

Figure out a way to make it work within your own rules or don't have your kids participate. Nothing confusing or inappropriate about the way camps and these parties, night owls, etc. is set up.

.

Because after someone asks the question someone else will come along with a link to this thread, gripe, whine and complain that this question was already asked once before.

I didn't notice it was old until I had already posted. I searched for the answer, and this thread came up. I figured people on this thread would know the answer, and they did.

I think that the information has changed. The themed party nights with a set price, seemed to have gone away on the ships that now have Camp Ocean. At least, that has been our experience. The hourly rate was charged, and my kiddos did miss this "owl jam" parties with the goodies (back pack, dance contests, night light, etc.) It was basically babysitting only after 10 pm.

For those who feel that after 10 pm is too late, some parents don't adjust the family schedule to new time zones. At home, San Diego, bedtime is around 9:00 pm. However, on a cruise in the Caribbean with a time zone three hours ahead of ours, we don't adjust to this new zone. This allows our boys to stay out later, midnight, but sleep in the next morning. We can usually pull this off for the first 4-5 days before their bodies naturally adjust to the new time zone. It's one of our favorite things about traveling to the East Coast. We all get to stay up later AND sleep in.

i've read about the costs for these options. bummer its gone to 6.75. but it has always said plus 15% gratuity. also never said discount for 2nd child. I've been wanted to take my grandchildren which finally am come this April. The 3 am is new, always seen it till 1am

Just verified on Carnival site, it is until 1:00am. and yes 6.75 which is what i've read in past, but thought in my head it was 6. but knew the total was what the night owls which is approx $20. for each child.

Isn't that the truth! I've read that even on the Carnival boards, blah blah, look it up in FAQ etc. I'm like, give those ppl a break, it can be a pain in the butt searching, believe me I still do it when I have questions even to something I have read before but has been a long time since originally seeing it lol. Thankfully there are more people who are kind and will answer without the griping haha. Heck, I will answer and post the link. I feel no need to be snarky about it when someone asks. I don't want them being snarky to me when I have to ask a question lol

Just some observations after reading this thread.....

If you want quality people caring for your child then they must be paid well. If children are delivered to the cabin at 3ish my guess would be tips are often overlooked by sleepy parents who have been out partying.

These programs are by parental choice ... it's not Carnival's fault kids are tired the next day. As a parent I knew what my kid would be like had I let him stay up until 3am and then gotten him up early the next day.

Can't really compare Carnival to Disney ... Disney cruises normally cost wayyyy more than Carnival and thus one would expect more freebie kinds of activities.

The price didn't seem extreme to me. A whole evening's party for kids until 3am for $26 is roughly equal to a couple of double alcoholic drinks for the parents. I'd bet most of the parents spent a lot more than the cost of the kids party on alcohol while the kids were being well taken care of.

Every poster seemed to acknowledge that their kid had a great time and were well taken care of on what was a fun vacation "night out" for the whole family. Isn't that what it's all about?

Yeah, it is a gigantic phone. We had to carry one when my son was 2 1/2 but at 4 last year we didn't get one, it was Spring Break and there were too many kids to give them to everyone.

It is worth every penny to me. We don't have babysitters or family to watch our son for us to go out when home so this is a great opportunity for my husband and I to have a few date nights. He has fun and we get a little break, when he gets tired they set him up on a mat with blanket. It is his vacation too and he likes the club so it gives all of us a well balanced vacation. In my opinion the prices are very reasonable. I think the absolute latest we have left him is 1am and when we picked him up he was asleep, my son can sleep anywhere. Either way, it is not for any of us to judge how long a parent should leave their child. Not sure all the 3am comments are necessary.

Yep, a win win for everyone and totally optional.
Sounds like a win win for Carnival. The charge you for baby sitting so that you can go out and spend money with drinks, and casino etc. Plus it helps curb the roaming kids at night for a place to go for those parents that let their kids loose on the ship.
