Any fun, good, unique items we should look for, into, budget for here? Thanks! Straw market is filled with junk from china.. not a place to buy anything authentic. If you want authentic basketware, try the Plait Lady.. We also have androsian batik - ready to wear shirts, shorts and dress, or by the yard. Lots of Jams, jellies, sauces and hot sauce. Steel drums Nassau Royal Rum as well as some flavored rums made in Nassau. Bacardi Rum Cake ( tortuga rum cake is here as well, but not made in the bahamas) Ceramics and tiles, pottery etc. Coins (coins of the realm) Soaps and natural oils Authentic jewelry (pearl, conch, shell, stones, beach glass etc.). Artwork and Photographs Bay Street is the spot to shop..just one block from the port exit. There are also a few vendors in Festival place with authentic goods. On Saturdays and sundays, Baystreet is filled with local sidewalk vendors selling authentic goods. Check them out.

Is it the same direction as the Straw Market? I've been to Nassau once, but it was a while back...

BIG_Steve Posted June 5, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2011 Coconut Rum is my must buy. Before you buy any booze in a port, look how much it is on the ship (if they have what you want.) First trip to Nassau I lugged a couple of bottles around all day, only to find they were $1.00 more on the ship. Well worth it to not have to carry them around........... petranite Posted June 12, 2011 #12 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Graycliffe Cigars are a major Bahama product that is made in Nassau. The factory is there and it is open to the public. Their cigars are highly respected and and valued within the cigar community and a very special item that is uniquely Bahaman. Of course you can get them in the US but if you go to the factory store in Nassau they sometimes have special blends only available there along with their brand of chocolate. Me and the mrs. go everytime.
