Pizza!

I love to get the pizza and a salad for lunch! I do like to get a few things that are not on their list though. I have brought some items from the salad bar and they will add those to a custom pizza.

I never knew that you could bring in items from the salad bar! There's all sorts of things from there i could put on my pizza. ham, bacon, pineapple, fresh mushrooms, different cheeses..... not to mention the toppings they already have at the pizza place.

The calzones are pepperoni and cheese and also delicious. Be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes for a calzone or special request pizza.

Do they make calzones made to order like they will for pizzas?

Yes they do.. and they take extra time so if you order one be prepared for atleast a 10min wait;)

Ten minutes? No problem. Not like I'm going anywhere... except maybe to the bar for another drink...

I've never had the calzone. Will plan on trying that in January. So far I'd say the pizza is hit and miss. Out of four cruises - two hits, two misses. I think the best I've had so far was on the Fantasy last January. I'll give it another shot on the Valor and also definitely get a calzone one night.

Pizza was pretty good if eaten when fresh. It doesn't "last" very well.By that I mean if "delivered", it would be lousy after a half hour.

Goat cheese pizza was by far the best choice.

On the other hand good NY pizza gets better as it sits, I always ask for reheated slices.

The actual pizza isn't terrific (us New Yorkers will agree), but the calzone is to dye for.

What colour:confused:

Pizza is fine late at night after the casino closes. Grab a couple slices and head to the balcony for a night cap and some eats.

I would not try and make it through a week on pizza alone though.

I'm always surprised how many people like Carnival's pizza. I gave it another chance on my last cruise after people raving about it here on CC. All I have to say is you people have never had really good pizza if you call this good. I'd take a frozen DiGiorno over Carnival's gross pizza anyday...

I wouldn't go as far as calling it "gross", but it certainly doesn't compare to a slice in New York. The crust is too thick, cheese/sauce ratio isn't great, and it isn't cooked in a hot enough oven. You're welcome, Carnival.

Can't believe how many people think the only good pizza is in New York or Chicago - try Golden Bakery in Thunder Bay and you will change your mind very quickly - plus we don't pay out our wazoo for it. I think we all have our favourites - I am one who does not mind Carnival Pizzas. I am in the middle of the freaking ocean I don't expect a pizza from New York - Chicago - Thunder Bay - a few beer and I would eat Poop on a stick (not really) but lets be realistic - it is not going to be primo but oh it tastes so good at 1:30AM

Real pizza is found in Naples, Italy. New Yorkers are delusional when it comes to great, real, pizza.

Nope, they're actually different things. (Yes, I've been to Italy several times)

Pizza from Italy is extremely thin, with small amounts of sauce and cheese, and usually nothing else.

Pizza from New York is a little thicker, with a larger crust and more sauce/cheese, and usually has toppings (not too many, though!)

I happen to like both.

In other words, New York pizza is just that, and not real pizza. Real pizza predates New York and therefore New York pizza. I've been to New York and Italy a number of times, and just returned from Italy. Above and beyond that, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night. I like all kinds of pizza, including Carnival's, but the original is still the best.

Pizza Margarita would also have basil on it and often some olive oil on top.

Some examples of Naples pizza

Here is one with lots of stuff - Pizza Capricciosa - Yum! {mushrooms, olives, and salami}

Same name, Sicily version {mushrooms, olives, salami, ham, artichokes} - really good

What I find interesting is people somehow expecting cruise line food to be the best available on the planet which it obviously isn't, but for the price you pay, you shouldn't expect it to be, either. The pizza on Carnival is pretty good and under no circumstances as bad as some people are making it out to be.

This is really silly, but I'll clarify just in case you didn't get it:

NEW YORK pizza and ITALIAN/ROMAN pizza are subsets of the PIZZA family. Therefore, they are both considered "real pizza". However, there are multiple subsets of "real pizza" which feature different ratios, doughs, and toppings.

But I really don't want to get into a discussion about this.
