Air Canada and striking customer service and sales staff have reached a tentative deal, the union representing the workers confirmed Thursday.

The Canadian Auto Workers have called a press conference for 2 p.m. ET in Toronto to discuss the deal. Labour Minister Lisa Raitt will speak to reporters at 1:15 p.m. ET in Ottawa.

Word of the deal came just minutes after the Conservative government introduced legislation Thursday to force the union back to work.
