Cruise to Nowhere

Has anyone even done one of these? Love 'em? Hate 'em?

Very curious. There is one coming up next April leaving from one of our home ports and am kinda thinking about getting in on this one.

I guess I'm looking at this one (3-days) as a Vegas alternative and at $179pp for a 1A I think its definitely cheaper than a Vegas trip.

For that price its not bad. I never heard of a 3 day cruise to nowhere.

I live near NY and it's usually $300+ for a 2 night cruise to nowhere.

I've heard them referred to as "booze cruises" lots of drinking, lots of craziness, people are loud all hours of the night.

Not for me.

PS. That is a super cut pic of you and your husband (or boyfriend, ect) in your sig!

Yeah, we've been on two 3-Days to Ensenada... and they are sort of booze cruises as well. We like them, we are youngish (29 and 39) party people. We are actually taking our first 5-Day cruise for our Honeymoon in November.

Thank you! We took that pic on the Elation and actually used it for our Engagement announcements... they said "We're as Happy as Clams... to Announce our Engagement!" on 'em.

I've done several of these and they are exhausting. Feels line you have to cram a 7-day cruise into two days. I would rather save a bit more money an take a longer cruise even if it is just a 5-night.

We haven't done anything longer than 3-Days thus far (our first 5-Day is in November for our Honeymoon) so this might be just up our alley!

The biggest problem with a 2-night cruise is by time you embark, get settled into your cabin, have the sail-away party and get ready for dinner that's most of your first day. You eat dinner, see the show, have a few drinks, stay up until 1am, and then sleep in the next day. You cram in as much stuff in the one and only full day aboard ship. By time you know it it's after lunch and half your day is gone. You repeat the late afternoon and dinner routine, repack, and when the ship pulls in at 6am the next morning and they boot you off by 8am your head is spinning and you wonder what you just spent $1000 on.

I'm sorry. I worded my post wrong. This is a 3-night cruise I am speaking of. And the ones we have gone on before were the same. The Cruise to Nowhere leaving from San Diego in April is Saturday through Tuesday. I don't think I would be looking at it if it was a 2-night. I definitely agree that a 2-night would be head spinning! (Although I have done 24-hr Vegas turn arounds too... hehehe).

Once you go 7-night, you never go back. Our first cruise was a 4-night, haven't done one since :)

If my husband enjoyed cruising more, we'd be doing B2Bs :P

I've personally done several 3-night cruises. Cut my 'cruising teeth' on short-market cruises. At the time they were GREAT. a weekend getaway is always a nice break and the added night over a 2-night makes a huge difference. Then I made the mistake of taking a 7-night cruise and never looked back. My next cruise is a 10-night back-to-back, my last cruise was a 9-night from Baltimore, and before that a long string of 10-, 11- and 7-night cruises going back almost two decades. I couldnt do a short cruise now because I am so used to longer cruises. I already have a 14-night B2B booked for 2012.

EDIT:

I have the DUMB!!! Guess I should have done a little more looking around on this cruise. This isn't really a cruise to nowhere. Its a repositioning cruise for the Alaska cruising season.

Aaaaaand... now I am looking into a B2B, cruise up the coast and then an Alaska cruise. Only have to pay for a one way flight that way. :)

Whoops!

We have taken the cruises to nowhere- (usually three days- one day getting on- one day getting off and one whole sea day)

179 is before all the taxes and it sounds very cheap- CTN now are so costly i can pay the rate and go somewhere.

I see prices for carnival starting at over 300. for these. NCL is cheaply prices. May I ask where you saw that deal

On all our CTN there were many first time cruiser to see if they would like cruising- and what is sad is "real" cruising is nothing at all like those CTN.

Tips must be prepaid= there are no porters at the pier- you have to carry on and off your stuff.

I did a one night on NCL this year. It was like three hundred and something dollars for myself and DW. did I have fun yes because it was a lot of us, but no because I fell to sleep at like 8 pm and missed everything. the food was just OK and there were a lot of drunk people including myself .

Watch out for violations of the Jones Act.
Jones Act has nothing to do with it. It would be the Passenger Vessel Services Act, if it even applied. Which it doesn't.

I did one for a girls weekend on the Gem out of NY. We live an hour away from the port so it was not a pain to get there. I found the crowd of mixed ages and it wasn't obnoxious in any way. We got on the ship pretty quick and by 1:00 were relaxing. It was October so there were not a lot of people in the pool areas but we did find great places to explore and relax in. The speciality restaurant we ate in was great and spent a lot of time in the casino.

On that cruise was the first time I played Quest and I thought I would die from laughing too much. Of the 4 of us, I was the only one who had cruised before. Now two of them have become addicted.

I would do it again in a heartbeat. We did not rush off the ship the last day, stayed as long as we could, and were back in our houses by 2. We did have a driver come for us so the party went on a bit on the ride home. We are all 40 something and didn't feel out of place. We had an OV cabin and paid about 275.00pp. I feel that is a good price, as any decent hotel would be about that and more since I am in NY.

Try it once if the price is right!

I was watching NCL's one day CTN in late May out of NYC and the price for an inside dropped to $79 pp before tax so I jumped on it. It was $79 only for a few hours then went up to $99 about 4 days before. Weather was great and we could enjoy being out on deck.

I had a great time, had all three meals and stopped at the Blue Lagoon (comfort food). They had one show only at only one time, pretty packed. NCL did it's signature games in the lounge and White Hot party, all things that they spread out on a 7 day. Casino packed from opening to closing.

No checked baggage or customs, you don't even need a passport. The shops all had signs "Tax Free, We Pay your Tax" since we didn't have a port of call your shopping wasn't technically duty free.

I'm watching the October Miracle two night CTN out of NYC in mid October, a little leery of $349 pp right now. Maybe if the price ever dropped. NCL next CTN's out of NYC are in December and January, probably would not do that as you couldn't be out on deck much.

A lot of people use CTN just to get their cruise count up with a cruise line to reach that high status and perks.

FWIW

Argh, that's the one I meant! Sorry, got them mixed up. Wasn't sure if the OP was looking at just a CCL cruise B2B or another line that might end in Seattle vs Vancouver. I work midnights and must have been half asleep when I was reading/typing. :(

looks like the 3 day cruise would be Los Angeles to vancouver and if she stayed on the Spirit it would be cruising from Vancouver to Seattle which would be in violation of the PVSA so wouldnt be able to do that one.
