First cruise on Celebrity Constellation

We will be taking our first ever cruise on Celebrity Constellation in July. Here are some of the questions we have. Perhpas any of you experieced travellers can help us out?

1. where to eat? Should we go to the main dinning room, buffet, or room service (we never had a room service before)? which has the best value? I love eating especially seafood and meat on bones. Is it worthy to pay for the Sushi (as I read on some website)?

2. Should we buy one of the beverage packages? My partner drinks one or two glasses of wine with dinner. Normally we don't have soft drinks at home. However, if it is there or free, I don't mind having some smoothy.

3. Excursions: our cruise visit Norway Fjord. Should we book the ones organsied by the cruise? If so, should be book excursions in advance? How about exploring by ourselves? I assume in a rather advanced/developed country like Norway, there must be good and reliable public transportation/taxi, am I right?

4. Should we have some cash with us onboard? I will go to the casino trying some slot machines and do some duty free shopping.

5. When do they clean our room? Must we leave our room at a specific time for housekeeping?

6. When we go to see the show, must we purchase a drink or can we just sit there enjoy the show?

7. Anywhere we can watch movies on board (free or with charge)?

Any other advices that you think we need will be highly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

You seem to have a misconception about the dining venues. All of the food onboard is free with the exception of the premium restaurant, and a specialty coffee shop. You will have a reservation in the main dining room (MDR) unless you opted for Select Dining. The buffet and the MDR will serve mostly the same menu, except on formal nights when there may be lobster in the MDR. Room service will have a more limited menu. there are some lines that allow you to order MDR offerings through room service, but I don't believe Celebrity is one.

Yhe beverage package is really for people who drink a lot. I believe if you are a moderate drinker, you do not get your moneys worth. Also, I believe it is not intended to be shared between two people. If you go to the Celebrity board here at CC, under Cruise Lines A-O, there is a sticky at the top of the page about the beverage packages.

Remember that many of the places you will visit in Norway will have populations smaller than the number of passengers on your ship! The availability of taxis may be a problem.

You should visit the Ports of Call section here at CC to see what is available in Norway. You should also join the roll Call for your cruise. this is where you can 'meet' others sailing with you. they will be all about discussing excursions and planning independent tours. To find you roll call, go back to the boards page, scroll down to Roll CAll - Members Only, click on Celebrity, find your ship, and look for a thread with the dates for your sailing.

You should not need any cash onboard the ship, except for small tips for room service personnel, and maybe in the casino. All onboard shopping is on your Seapass card, which is your cabin key and your onboard 'credit card'.

Housekeeping will clean your room twice a day: after you leave in the morning (they will learn your schedule, if you like to sleep in) and while your are at supper.

You do not need to purchase a drink at any time in any venue. Most cruises, the only drinks I have are the free ones.

There will be movies on your TV, and I believe there is a venue onboard where they show movies. It might be in the main theater. Come visit the Celebrity board and someone can give you better information about that.

Eat in the main dining room for dinner . The food is very good and there is no extra charge. The drinks package are not A good deal unless you drink A lot. Soda is extra but the package is A good value. The maid will know when you are out of your room. You do not have to buy A drink to watch the show, get there early for the best seats. Ithink there is A movie theater on board. Was on the connie. in Oct. it is A great ship and wonderfull crew . Do not miss the thermo pool it is shaped like an X is warm and wonderfull after A day of walking.

Here is a thread from the main Celebrity board with the dailies - the newspaper/program that they put in your cabin every evening for the next day. These are from Summit to Bermuda, but you can get the idea of what may be offered. I see there is a theater on deck 3, which has a movie multiple times a day. EM

Most celebrity ships have a movie theater. The main dining is great. Ialways have some cash on me for the casino, but some cruise line lwet you use your room card. I book my excursions through the ship. If you book through the ship it will not leave without you. Great choice for your first cruise.
