Rysyonok Posted June 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2011 I am looking to find rum that is unique to Barbados, one that cannot be purchased anywhere else. So far I am finding that Mount Gay's, Malibu's, St. Nicholas Abbey's products can be found in US and/or UK, or even online, and I was hoping for something truly unique. Thank you :)
westcoastfantasy Posted June 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2011 Cockspur Rum is made in Barbados and is very popular. I believe it can be purchased in the states though.

barbados Posted July 1, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2011 IMHO, Mt. Gay 1703 is the best, if you can find it and afford it. Otherwise, Mt. Gay XO (Extra Old) is my second choice. You don't have to look any further, trust me. ;)

Rysyonok Posted July 2, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted July 2, 2011 Thank you for all the responses. What about Mount Gilboa Rum (can't pinpoint whether it's a separate venture or a part of Mt. Gay family) or Old Brigand 10-year old (I found out that R. L. Seale & Co., Ltd. does offer tours, but I can't find directions or hours for them)? barbados Posted July 2, 2011 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2011 "It's not available for sale at Mt. Gay visitor center gift shop? " Maybe I don't know if Allen still has any of the 2009 1703 left (the best!). If he does, it will be US$100-200/lt. The XO is almost always available at the gift shop and around town for 1/3 of that price. Stop at a rum shop and try them all. :)

barbados Posted July 2, 2011 #10 Share Posted July 2, 2011 Allen Smith goes by the title of Master Blender of Mt. Gay Rum. If you get to meet him, you'll discover he is.....much more than that. ;)

Is selection / prices any better in distilleries themselves versus stores in Bridgetown?
