Freedom of the Seas and Royal Tots Nursery

We are going on the Freedom in April 2012 for a Family Cruise... my MIL changed dinner from 5:30 to 8:30, so obviously my 2 year old won't be attending. We thought about an in-room sitter, but I am interested in knowing what "incident" occurred that they now have to send two sitters. Can anyone elaborate?

I'll eat crackers in my room before I'll put my daughter in an undesirable situation.

Nobody knows what the "incident" was (if any). Anything people write about is speculation or hearsay, because RCCL isn't going to give out any official information as to the policy change. The babysitting has always been on a volunteer basis, so that didn't change.

We used the service twice -- once on Mariner when our son was 1 year old, and again in June on Oasis when he was 3 years old. We had very positive experiences both times...really sweet women, who were very conscientious and good with our son. Funny, I never use a sitter at home (only Grandma)...but have done it both times we have cruised with our son. It's been great for us, as we get quality vacation/fun time with DS during the day, then put him down for sleep while we go to late dinner and some casino/show time. It's like two vacations in one.

The Freedom now has a nursery for under 3's. Really no need to roll the dice and use in cabin babysitting on a ship that has the nursery. I do not know what the "incident" was but I did talk to a few ship employees and they said there was an incident which required the rule change. I think the best rule of thumb to use for any kids club or nursery for your toddler is to use the service sparingly. Meaning 2 hours a day at most. This will help insure everyone will have a happy cruise.

Just wanted to chime in - my experience with the in-room sitting was very good too. Personally, I think having 2 people is a good thing when it comes to the safety of my child. But, as rolloman mentioned, Freedom has a nursery for children 6 months - 3 years old. There is an additional fee, but it's less than the in-room sitting. Reservations are required - book once on-board.

Good luck!

  • 1 year later...

It has been a long time since this thread was responded to but I would love some up to date info. My son will have just turned 3. From what I understand as long as my son is potty trained he can go into the kids club. I think that even if your child is almost 3 as long as they are potty trained they can go to the kids club.

Any recent info would be great!!:)

Yes to the first. No to the second. Children must be 3 years old and fully potty trained, able to independently take care of potty needs (undressing, dressing, wiping, etc.). The age minimum of 3 must be strictly enforced for insurance reasons, structure of the kids club, and because if they allow one "almost 3, but potty trained" in, then they must let all "almost 3, but potty trained" in and then the age minimum is meaningless.

Does anyone know what size the potty's in the 3-5 age group are? Are they the tiny toliets that they have at schools and daycares center? Also depending on how long my son has been potty trained I thought about getting him a potty watch like this to wear so he remembers to go potty. I don't plan on having my son in the kids club for more than 2 hours at a time so I think if I have him potty before or right when we get the the kids club it should be an issue. The watch can be set to beep/play music every 30,60 or 90 minutes. I worry about him being in a new exciting place and him forgetting to potty. So I thought a gentle reminder couldn't hurt.

Anyone tried this? Do you think the care providers would be ok with him wearing the watch?
