AnnaP Posted July 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2011 So we are planning to sail the Eastern Carb on the Glory next Spring. We have only ever done interior rooms but have some extra cash and we were considering doing a balcony. I have rates for a inside, mid-ship balcony, and an aft extended balcony. They break down like so Balcony is $560 more overall than the interior Aft Balcony is $110 more than Balcony I have been doing research and the main complaints I see about aft is: 1. It is hot. This could potentially be a big issue as neither I nor my husband are sun bathers. I actually dislike getting to hot to be honest. Is it really that hot back there? 2. The walk. This I don't mind so much really. So my question is how usable are the balconies in the regular midship ones? The photos I have seen do look pretty small but photos can be deceiving. We don't need to have a party out there or nothing but it would be nice if us and our son (7 years old) could hang there at times. What are the biggest bonuses to having a balcony? Is the aft worth it? We are looking at 7446 on the glory at this point since we need it for 3. Any advice would be awesome! I have read a ton of stuff on here but a fresh look for my specific concerns would be great! Thanks in advance! Cruise critic users are so nice and helpful! Catrin Posted July 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2011 I am going to be one of the rare posters here..... who did not feel the aft balcony was worth the extra price. While it was neat to see the wake, and sit back there, I missed seeing what was to come. Our best balonies have been mid ship or on the Lido Deck. firefly333 Posted July 19, 2011 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2011 I did a aft facing cabin on Carnival twice, both had vibration. Did a aft facing JS on Liberty OTS and all I could think was how inconvenient it was to stop by the cabin to use the bathroom between activities and meals. On Carnival I think the extended afts are half covered, so lots of sun. Lots of others dont mind the inconvenience. I also kept wishing I could see where the ship was going, not just the wake. scissorhappygrl Posted July 20, 2011 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2011 Hi Anna, My friends and I went on this cruise April 2008 in balcony cabins 6417 and 6419, they are side by side, I believe it's starboard side. Anyway, we pulled into each port facing each one! It was incredible, especially when we pulled into St Thomas and we parallel parked between two ships!!! Amazing!! We paid around $659 per person and the great thing is they opened the partition between our balconies and it gave us so much room! Have a great time on your cruise!:) Lisa
midwifejen Posted July 20, 2011 #5 Share Posted July 20, 2011 We've never done an aft balcony, but were right next to them on the Glory last year (we had the aft wrap which is in a class by itself). Anyway, the aft balconies seem to have so little privacy - unless you're sitting back against the wall, everyone on the balconies next to you and above you can see whatever you're doing. Not a big deal, but I consider my balcony to be my own private get-away space. Not interested in my neighbors' business, don't want to become friends for life. For this reason, I will stick with regular balconies, unless we are traveling with a group, and then I'll spend the extra on a premium aft wrap... imlulu Posted July 20, 2011 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2011 We just did an aft extended on Glory. We really loved it. We did Canada though and had some really great weather. I got a tan! :-) Privacy is limited but it really didnt bother us. we were in Cabin 7451. The location was perfect..down 2 to Casino, sushi, Creams, lounges and up 2 to Lido. We did a midhsip on Victory on our previous cruise. It was ok but an aft is larger. Have fun. We really liked the Glory.
