Carnival Smoking policy??

From the Carnival web site:

What is the smoking policy? Effective June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar.

Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas (starboard side) of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor.

* All Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment.

* Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony.

Am I reading this right on cc posts that Carnival will be smoke free except on balconies and outside deck areas come January 1st 2012????

That is pretty accurate, but there will be a couple of clubs that allow smoking too.

I'm confused by the Carnival website. Am I reading this right? As of 6/15 you CANNOT smoke on your balcony but after Jan(whatever the date was) you CAN smoke on your balcony. For some reason that doesn't make sense.

I normally would not be concerned, but I am trying to get a friend and her husband to go on their first cruise and he is a smoker.

You have always been allowed to smoke on the balcony (non spa cabin)and this new policy has not changed that.

From what I understand, you can smoke on your balcony, I believe the date(Dec 1st) you can no longer smoke inside your cabin.

"All Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment."

I guess the word "inclusive" means including to me!

That only applies to the Spa suites and staterooms; all of the other decks will still allow smoking on the balconies.
