One is 17 and one is 18...

Howdy Folks,

We'll be on the Glory in Feb with our four sons and their girlfriends, and our youngest son has some questions.

Jared will have just turned 18 a few weeks prior to this cruise, but his girlfriend Brit will still be 17 during the cruise (she turns 18 a couple months later). They will both be in grade 12 in highschool (seniors). We already know that technically, Jared cannot be in the O2 Club, and Brit cannot be in the Dance Club.

Is there any wiggle room for these rules? Jared would love to show Brit the awesomeness of O2 (it will be her first cruise and he's a veteran at cruising now;)), or alternately he would love to have her join him in the Dance Club at night so that all 8 of the "kids" can hang out together. (The other 6 "kids" range in age from 19 to 30) What exactly is the rule about kids under 18 in the Dance Club?

If there any of you who have had some experience with this and can offer some insight... it would be much appreciated.

They won't 'wiggle' the rules for the disco or the casino.

Sometimes, depending on how many kids and the opinion of the Club02 counselor an 18yo high school student will be allowed in. Have him bring his school ID.

At what time are those younger than 18 asked to leave the disco at night? I thought I remember seeing something about them being allowed to stay until 10pm or 11pm or something like that?

Cricket... cricket... anybody? :o

?? Considering how active this room usually is, I can't believe NO ONE has the answer to this after almost 7 hours?!?:confused::eek:

We cruised three times with two other families. Amongst us the last time were six "kids", aged 20,20,18,18,18, and 17 (two months shy of 18.). One of the 20 y.o. and the 17 y.o were ours. The poor kid was not allowed in any of the adult venues. He was kicked out of the casino, even though he wasn't gambling (very frugal child-sees it as a waste of $$) but was watching some of his friends at a table. (I am NOT condoning breaking any rules, he didn't know he could not just watch.)

His big brother was a trooper and they spent most of the time the two of them together.

The moral of this story is that the girlfriend will not be able to go into most of the same places as your son, and vice versa. As long as they go into the cruise knowing this, they should be able to find other fun things to do together.

Wish I had better news for you.

Thanks for the info... quite helpful - I'll make sure they know ahead of time, like you say, and that will be easier for them to plan out their evenings. I'm hoping that with my son's school ID they may make an exception for him in the O2 club and that would be the best outcome.

We're a pretty close family, so I'm sure we'll all have lots of fun together regardless. :D Thanks again for your help!:D

I can't promise you that she won't get carded in the disco, but my observation has been that if she doesn't stand out as really young (compared to the rest of her group) and the "group" is having a good time and not causing a scene, there's way too much else for the staff to monitor than whether one young lady is borderline too young. If you are in the club with them, the odds of everything being OK would also be a bit higher. Now, if she just turned 17 and looks much younger than the rest of the group, all bets are off, lol.

My pleasure.

Sometimes I think the cruise line should look at the kids' school grades, not ages. On the cruise I mentioned, the four younger kids had just graduated from high school and were college bound.

But why dwell on the past.

We have Carnival Dream booked for next April. The boys are coming with us! It will be our first family vacation in four years. With the boys studying at different colleges and having different vacations, it was impossible to plan anything. Now that our oldest has graduated and is on his own schedule, we only have to rely on our youngest's school calendar.

I am so excited for our cruise!

She can be in the club up until 10PM.

From the FAQ:

Lounges, shows, and the dance club: Guests under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult in all public areas of the ship. Guests under the age of 18 must vacate the dance club by 10:00pm. Guests under the age of 18 may not attend the Midnight Shows, which are "R" rated.

Even more great info from everyone... thanks!!!:D

Brit is 6'1" (she's a volleyball player) and looks 22, so she very well might avoid being checked for ID, especially when in the company of the rest of us. And yes, we would definitely be in the dance club too as hubby and I love to dance as well. :)

Have fun on your cruise Startgate, and enjoy your time with your "kids"... I know we'll sure enjoy ours!

With the fear of people telling me that we were so wrong I will tell you our experience anyway. We took my 14 year old nephew with us on a cruise last year. (He stayed with my mom and I) His parents had said that my mom could act as his mom for the week on saying yes or no to things. We had a friend that was with us that she was 21. There was no way that anyone that was not in our group would have known the 7 year age difference. He went to the aft pool with us  (he was told about it being adults only and that he had to act like one, his maturity level I don't think he would have been very comfortable in the other pools)and to the R rated comedian.:rolleyes: We all agreed that he has heard worse in school. (I work PT at his school, I HAVE heard worse) I truly believe that if the person acts mature and doesn't obviously act "like a teenager" they won't be asked to leave. But, if they are...oh well.

In case anyone is wondering....nope, we didn't keep anything from his parents, they were told everything and didn't have a problem with any of it. Have fun on your cruise.

What does height have to do with it? Girls are done growing by 15. :D

Her height, along with her appearance, gives the impression that she is older than her years. And as for the growth pattern of teenage girls... not so for Brit or her sisters... she was only 5'9" when she was 15 - she has grown another 4 inches in the last 2 years! I can't imagine that kind of height as I'm only 5'2" ,:p But she sure is helpful in the kitchen when i can't reach things from my upper cupboards!! LOL!:D

The Disco is heavily carded after 11PM....so no one under 18 will get in (usually)

Club O2 is a "maybe". DO take the high school id....and ask. Make sure you have all the kids with you at the time....so that the director can see that there is a group.

Not a guarantee....but they do make exceptions.

Since you are going on the Glory, the good news is that there are two tables right outside Club O2's door where kids hang out alot and you don't have to be 17 or under to hang there...
