Bet & Peg Posted July 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2011 I know that the legal currency in Gibraltar is the Pound Sterling. However, those who have been to Gibraltar and taken a taxi/van to see the apes ~ have you paid in Pounds, Euro or Dollars??? I know the rate of exchange might not be too good with other currency, however, we'll be in port just a short time and would like to get a cab/taxi go to the top of the rock ASAP and hesitate taking the time to exchange money if its not really needed. Thanks much!
Britchic4 Posted August 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2011 You will be able to use Euros everywhere, but you will be paying a little bit more.
RetiredFL Posted August 23, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2011 Be careful not to accept Gibraltar pounds or coins in change. While they are the "same" as UK pounds they are not accepted in the UK if you ever go there. UK pounds, however, are accepted in Gibraltar. I suspect many places will accept credit cards or euros. Bet & Peg Posted August 23, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted August 23, 2011 Thanks much for your replies!! I know the exchange rate won't be good, but I think we'll probably pay for a cab/van in euros - easier than trying to exchange money and being stuck with anything left.
