Fafnar Posted July 31, 2011 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2011 Just booked with RCCL for a cruise in September, stopping in Falmouth. Can I buy the Blue Mountain coffee near the port or do I have to go into Montego Bay?

CaribbeanBlue Posted August 5, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2011 When ever someone from our company travels to Jamaica for gemological work they are expected to bring back a few bags of Blue Mountain coffee. The price for the coffee is super low and the quality is fantastic. Save room in your suitcase to bring some home. We usually buy it at the airport on the way home, the price is about the same and since they sell a LOT of coffee at the airport so its fresher. Fresher is better. Ready 4 the next 1 Posted August 5, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2011 Just booked with RCCL for a cruise in September, stopping in Falmouth. Can I buy the Blue Mountain coffee near the port or do I have to go into Montego Bay? When you buy blue mountain coffee you need to be a little bit careful. Many people here on CC have reported getting bad coffee in the shops in Falmouth. There is also coffee for sale that is described as "high mountain" or "high grown" which is NOT Blue Mountain coffee and frankly it is pretty bad. If the coffee is not professionally packaged- DO NOT BUY IT! We always buy Jablum which comes in an exterior bag that is like a burlap cloth, but is sealed in a Blue bag inside. The inside bad is basically the same material that you would get buying Starbuck's or other typical premium coffees in the U.S. The burlap exterior bag will have the Jablum label around it and a Jablum ribbon that is a reddish/brownish color at the top of the burlap bag. The price went up when we bought it in June. We paid $20 a pound for 4 pounds after a lot of haggling in Montego Bay. In January, 2010 we only paid $13. There are other brands besides Jablum that are probably good, but we have always been very happy purchasing that brand. We are on our second pound now. It only lasts so long around our house. Colorado Kat Posted August 6, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2011 We brought back 4 pounds as well. We just told our driver we wanted to purchase it, and he took us to a store he knew. $18 a pound.
