Just Off Sovereign 3 nighter...

I'm not the OP but I was on the same sailing. It was my second time on the Sovereign, both since the refurb, so I can't really compare it to prior to then. As far as I'm concerned, the ship is in great shape. All the public areas look (and probably are) brand new and the cabins, though small, are in good shape (except for the bed covers, they really should be replaced).

I was on deck two this trip and deck five the previous one and at no time detected any sewage smell. I find it interesting that most of the complaints about the plumbing have been from the higher decks, I guess for once it pays to be cheaper.

The three night cruise was short, but for a quick get-away from the cold, it wasn't bad. I think the trick is to get on as early the first day as possible to make the most of the time.

We did make it to Coco Cay. It was an absolutely beautiful day, upper 70's, absolutely blue skies and a gentle breeze. I didn't want to leave - I ended up taking the last tender back to the ship. Some hints about the tenders, if you wait until after 11 AM to go to the island there is no line, also the last tender off was not full while the previous tender was packed full.

To address the other questions asked, the formal night was the second night while in Nassau (we were docked there until 2:30AM). There were some spring breakers aboard along with a large group of high school students who were aboard for a music festival. All in all, I found most to be having a lot of fun while remaining well behaved.

I was on Deck 9 and did not notice any of the sewer smell.

As far as the refurbish.... some people have complained about the artwork on the walls, color scheme, etc. I personally didn't care about any of that. I wanted a clean ship with plenty to do and I found that on the Sovereign.

However, I am not so sure that all the rooms were redone, my room on Deck 9 needed new paint or wallpaper, as many areas hard large places were the paint had peeled off. Also Deck 9 near the aft had many many large water stains on the carpet, the kind you get from flooding, not wet pool goers.

Deck 1, where you get off the ship for Nassau and Coco Cay did have a large spot where the vinyl flooring was bubbled. I consider that a saftey issue. I tripped on it, and an older pax or someone with balance problems could have easily injured themsleves.

Coco Cay was beautiful, I agree with waiting later to go and come back. We came back around 3:30 or 4 and had a long wait while the tender before us unloaded. The total time between deciding to leave the island and actually getting through security was about 45 minutes. our tender had to circle several times, and the one after us was waiting quite a bit for us.

Food was good, although not the variety that I remeber from cruises. The midnight buffet had the same foods as embarkation day lunch.

I flew down to Orlando from New York the night before and stayed overnight at the airport Hyatt. Since I was travelling solo, I took the RCI bus from MCO to Port Canaveral for $25. I took the noon bus that arrived at the ship around 12:45. For some reason the lines were long at that time - for my New Year's cruise, they were much shorter at that hour. There was a wait of about 15 minutes just to get through security. The check in lines also appeared pretty long. Fortunately, I'm a Platinum member so I was able to go directly to the front. It's possible that there were some large groups checking in at the same time.

Crew32, which stateroom were you in on Deck 9? That's where we're staying in May.

I have heard romors on this board that the Deck 9 Superior OV rooms have tubs, frudges, and safes (unlike other SOS staterooms) Can you comment on this?

Thanks!

I was in stateroom 9564. There was no tub & no Fridge. There was a safe.

The water in Coco Cay was a tiny bit chilly, but I am a Floridian, and many people found the water great.

I do not know what time the casino opens when in Nassau. But I do believe that it is the best night to gamble onboard. The ship is trying to keep you onboard instead of in the land based casinos. That is also why formal night is the nigt you are in Nassau.

I boarded at 2:30 but had hoped to get there sooner.

If I recall correctly, the casino opened at 7PM while we were in Nassau.

The sports deck only had basketball and ping pong. The rock climbing wall was on the deck above. It looked like they are in the process of adding screening or netting around the sports deck. The framework was there but no actual nettting. I don't remember the framework being there New Year's weekend.
