Are there Bad cabins on the Riviera?

We haven't cruised much and this will be our first time on Oceania. We would like to book at level B-3, but realize that these rooms are on deck #7 and are over some of the public areas. Should we be concerned about noise?

Thanks

We will be taking our first cruise next June, on the Riveria, & we have a B4 suite, which is on deck #7. How did you find the deck plan to know that deck #7 is over some of the public areas? Our suite is on the port side, aft. I'm wondering now if I should contact TA & check out an upgrade to another deck?

We were in a B4 on the Marina which is the identical ship to Riveria. Our cabin was 7115 and we booked it again on the Riveria for 2012. We never heard noise other than the thrusters (I think that is what they are called) when we ported.

We just went on Oceania's web site and looked at the ship's deck plan. Deck 7 is right above the casino and martini's lounge. Look at the next reply from Terrier1 who said that they didn't hear any noise.

Hi "Cool Cruiser"

My husband and I are also on B 4 and a few suites away from you. Thanks for letting us know the room is quiet. It is over Deck 6 which is the Grand Dining Room the Bar so we were concerned about noise also. We took a cruise once on another line and being near the public areas was a disaster. This is our third cruise with Oceania and are looking forward to the newer ship and larger rooms and more amenities.

We had a B-3 mid-deck 7 cabin on the Marina last month. The only noise was from the lowering and raising of the tenders for the excursions. We did not hear any noise from the public areas on deck 6. We have reserved a similar cabin for the Riviera in May.

We had a B2 Marina last month and now booked B4 cabin immediately below prior cabin. Never heard tenders lowered from Deck 8 but somewhat concerned regarding your mention of tender noise from Deck 7 as we usually sleep late. How early did the noise begin? Thanks

BTW, not to worry about being over Martinis or casino. Almost deserted by 11:00 PM

Wondering if anyone has any information on the Oceania Marina's two aft-facing PH3 cabins on deck 7? There are four in total (two on each side) and we took #7135 (on the Riveria) so that we could have an aft-facing deck for a transatlantic in November 2012. But the cabin definitely looks about 15-20% smaller than the other PH's. If anyone who might have seen them, or had one, could comment pros/cons it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Holly

We’ve stayed in both 7130 and 7135. Both are slightly narrower then the PH’s next to them, 7128 and 7133. Where you will “feel” this narrowness is in two places…the space used for a walkway (which is about 10” narrower) between the chairs/table at the end of the bed and the dresser along with the closet area where the rod for clothes runs the width of the closet area rather than the length of it as it does in all other PH's. It would be personal preference whether either of these would bother you…for us, they did not.

The actual balcony area is quite expansive due not only to the depth but also the width of the wrap around section. Even on a TA, there was always some area of the balcony we could sit out and enjoy the serenity sheltered from the wind while in motion.

Other possible issues that may or may not bother you:

All the way at the aft end of the ship on deck 7 (close to some things; not others)

Soot on the balcony on occasion (staff does wipe down outdoor furniture daily)

Not on the upper “PH” decks (a status thing for some)

Not near the Executive Lounge (we visited this once in 29 days; never missed it)

Can feel the thrusters when docking (I felt them all over the ship not just the aft section)

All in all, none of these things were bothersome to us. Hope that helps...

Kathleen

Kathleen ~ thank you so much for all of that information. I could tell that the cabin was narrower, but it is so helpful to know how that translates in the room comfort. Because we are on a TA the use of a non-windy balcony was our most important consideration - especially with our last 7 days being all at sea! We are used to larger ships so the distance from things doesn't bother us, but I have to admit I'll feel like the 'poor cousin' down on Deck 7! Because there were no other options for aft-facing balconies on the Riveria (except in Grand Suites) we went ahead and booked it. I do feel so much better having read your comments - thanks!

You are certainly welcome, Holly...glad the information was helpful. You will still receive all the same wonderful benefits of being in a PH such as the butler, etc., but will also have that lovely, expansive balcony to retreat to.

We have found that the PH butler service level is impeccable no matter where you are located on Marina!

The last time we had a butler was one of our fondest memories (on Princess) - certainly handy for making dinner reservations! We are pretty self sufficient, but it's nice having that extra help. :)
