Rare Musky Ike Posted August 10, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2011 We will be touring out in the bush in Skagway with no place to stop for a lunch. Since it is a US port, if we pick up some things from the horizon court for a sack picnic lunch it should be OK to take off the ship, right? wolfie11 Posted August 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2011 According to the ship and US customs, it is NOT ok to take things off the ship unless they are prepackaged. After all, YOU do not want to be responsible for ruining the Alaska orange crop with an invasive pest. On the other hand, I have never had a bag inspected as I was getting off the ship. Almost all organized tours that are out around lunch time provide some kind of a meal (most of the ones in Haines do). If you are on your own, there are a number of purveyors of foodstuffs in Skagway, including a grocery store, a liquor store, and (wait for it!!) a Starbucks (yes, they're everywhere). The tour operator states that they do not provide lunch and there is no place to get where we are going. No big deal, beleive me, it would not hurt any of our group skip a meal:D
