Hei1980 Posted March 26, 2005 Author #2 Share Posted March 26, 2005 The best thing to do to avoid jellyfish is to be careful where you swim and when you swim. Broken jellyfish and their tentacles are often washed ashore after storms. Also, jellyfish tend to migrate up the coast into warmer waters as the summer progresses. Keeping this in mind, swim when the area is clear and avoid long swims at the height of their migration to your area. OK: What I would like to know when is the migration in the Western Caribbean and when in the Eastern Caribbean? Does anyone know?
Hei1980 Posted March 26, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted March 26, 2005 There is a reason I am so interested in jellyfish: Once in Barbados a woman brushed up against a jellyfish, the tentacles wrapped around her body. As she made her way screaming towards shore, a Bajan who was walking by and knew what had happened yelled at the woman's husband, "Pee on her Mon." The husband did, yes, it did help. But I'm thinking vinegar would work too, so maybe, if it is migration season, I should bring a small flask of vinegar! Not sure which would be worst, to be strung or peed on?
