Krazy Kruizers Posted March 26, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2005 Has anyone ever taken HAL's Kohunlich Mayan Ruins with lunch tour? Is so, how was it? Was it worth the $139 per person? Any information would be appreciated.
okanoah Posted April 7, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2005 Our ship docked at the pier and was shuttled in since the main entrance is about 1/2 mile away on pier. The locals greeted us and there is a beach, shops, Mayan Performance, all at the Entrance. I understand that you have to take a taxi to the town. We went to the Kohunlich Ruins which takes about 6 hours, 3 or 4 hrs driving thru country. The ruins are quite impressive with facial masks carved on Temple by the hill. We had a snack lunch provided by ship. There is a bathroom facility by entrance to site. Also we stopped about 30 min from site at a roadside store to buy drinks and visit bathrooms. PyeDog Posted April 9, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2005 We did these ruins on a tour with NCL. We were disappointed. This was in Oct. '03 and about 1/2 of the ruins were closed due to a recent fire. We also felt that the tour, for what we were able to see, took too long (all of our time in port). Also, while our tour guides worked very hard to keep us informed and entertained, they said things that just simply weren't true, so we weren't sure how much of the other information (that was new to us) to actually believe. I think that they told us what they believed to be true, but based on our reading ahead & what the experts say, we knew they were misinformed. Worst, we were unable to get into that beautiful water!! It truly is gorgeous. If you want to do the ruins thing, I recommend you try Chaccoben (sp?). It will eat up less of your time and they have a big pyramid. Then you can also go for a swim. Just my opinion, Pyedog
