KruiseT Posted August 20, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2011 Has anyone found a tour company that will pick up at the cruiseport and take passengers to Gibraltar? We'll be stopping in Malaga on Oct. 31st. and are interested in possibly joining a private tour. Thanks!
Rare Hlitner Posted August 20, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2011 Has anyone found a tour company that will pick up at the cruiseport and take passengers to Gibraltar? We'll be stopping in Malaga on Oct. 31st. and are interested in possibly joining a private tour. Thanks! If you post this on the appropriate port board you might get some help. But we are curious as to why anyone would want to go to Gibraltar from Malaga. Most folks would be going the opposite direction (from Gibraltar to Spain). But, if you have it in your head to really go to Gibraltar, it takes about 1:45 min driving each way. However, depending on the situation at the border you might have futher delays (depends on the mood of the Spanish and the Gibraltar border guards). Rare John Bull Posted August 20, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2011 It's about 80 miles. Taking the toll road, it should be about 1 1/2hrs by road. There's no rail service. Plenty of day-trip coach excursions but unfortunately they don't fit in with most cruise ship itineraries. Car hire is cheap & the route very simple. Hank's point about the border crossing is very relevant by car, often taking hours. But quick & easy on foot. For that reason, folk leave their cars at the border (stacks of on-street & underground parking), cross on foot & take the shuttle buses to town - about ten minutes. Unless you're held up for 5 to 10 mins by an aircraft, since the road crosses the runway. Bus used to cost €1, now I believe it's free. You may also find that private tours will offer you only transport to the border. In which case you take the shuttle bus, then taxi/van or cablecar up the Rock, walk the Main Stree shops & sights, before returning to the border with 200 duty-free smokes & a big bottle of booze. ;) JB :)
Desert Cruizers Posted August 25, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2011 Hi Craig & Cathy, haven't seen you recently and hope to see you back on our Roll Call, right now I don't know anyone in our group doing a Gilbraltar Tour, most of us are doing Alhambra. We are there for 12 hours and nobody has suggested going to Gilbraltar
