Volos

Has anyone visited this port? I understand that the main excursion is to the Meteora, which I have already toured (and thoroughly enjoyed) so I was looking to visit the area around Volos, and maybe some of the mountain villages.

Does anyone have any information on public transit or taxis?

thanks for any information:)

When we called at Volos in 2007 we went on a half day ship's excursion on an historic train ride up into the mountains. It started at a little village called Ano Lechonia just outside Volos and went up to Milies. While the town of Volos does not have much to attract a visitor, this train ride let us see some of the stunning scenery in the area.

I do recall seeing a few taxis in town, but we stopped there on a Sunday and didn't see any buses. The town was a shuttle bus ride of about 10 minutes from the dock.
