Eileen G Posted September 1, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2011 we have been to both. Taormina is a beautiful town on the top of a hill overlooking the sea with a fantastic Greek theater. Tindari is the home of the Black Madona which is housed in a very pretty church. We also went to some Greek ruins a short walk away. Here are my pictures of Tindari:https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=1e98e90214e77bf9&sc=photos#cid=1E98E90214E77BF9&id=1E98E90214E77BF9%212703&sc=photos Here are my pictures of Taormina:https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=1e98e90214e77bf9&sc=photos#cid=1E98E90214E77BF9&id=1E98E90214E77BF9%211924&sc=photos

rlse9 Posted September 2, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2011 Between the two, I'd definitely say Taormina. Above either (or combined with Taormina since they're in the same direction), I'd recommend Mount Etna if you're at all an outdoors person and enjoy volcanoes. It is truly an impressive sight. Rare Keith1010 Posted September 2, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2011 At a minimum I would do Taormina. For us, it is one of the most charming towns in Italy we have visited. Keith

longhornfans Posted February 3, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Has anyone done both Taormina and Tindari in the same day? We are very interested in both - our ship is in port in Messina from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Is this possible to do on our own?
dolphin2012 Posted February 4, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 4, 2013 We are looking at the same time frame... they have an excursion that does taormina and greek theatre and one with taormina and the mt/volcano? which one would be better? or try to do both towns and forget the mt? thanks for your help
rebeccalouiseagain Posted February 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 4, 2013 This is the view from Taormina. You don't have to go to Mt. Etna to appreciate it.
Eileen G Posted February 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 4, 2013 Has anyone done both Taormina and Tindari in the same day? We are very interested in both - our ship is in port in Messina from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Is this possible to do on our own? Taormina and Tindari are in oppisite directions so you really can't do them in the same day. The only way to do Tindari on your own is to rent a car as you can't get there by public transportation. It is possible to get to Taorminia by public train or bus and that takes most of the day. Taorminia is much more interesting than Tindari.
